I built this very janky pen plotter recently, and have been having fun drawing various things with it (mostly contour maps) youtu.be/qyNWDzO6kKQ?...

Of course, donations or other "support app" strategies are one straight forward way, but I suspect that would barely cover any costs. I'd love to build some nice visual-only in-app purchases like animated avatars etc, simply to support the app. But yeah, that would likely not be sufficient.

I don't know if/how bluesky shows this to people, since I have no following here. So here are some hashtags 😄 #OpenSource #OSS #BuildInPublic #IndieDev #Tech #Household

If anyone wants to take a look at what I'm building, here’s the WIP version: wealldo.app Fair warning though, it’s currently running on my super old laptop, repurposed as a server, at home, so be gentle! 🥔💻

A model like n8n—keeping the core free and selling to enterprise doesn't really work here. The app is built for households and flatmates, so there's not really a B2B or enterprise angle for it I can see.

Just shooting into the void here... I built a chore and expense tracking app for my flat, and I’d love to open-source it so anyone can use it for free. Does anyone have experience sustaining an OSS project without ads, paywalls, or extracting money from users? Would love any advice or ideas!

Is atproto primarily a "public data" protocol? So you use it for accounts and public profiles, but you can't really use it for apps needing private data (besides login)? Lets say a simple todo app built on atproto would still store the private per-user todos in a conventional db?

I cant agree, there are amazing trends towards tooling that doesn't build up on top off ancient tooling. Especially when setting up new projects, you have so much freedom to to choose what you build your project with. Look for native APIs instead of using "established" libraries, go ESM first, etc.

Mhm use void0 tooling and things just kinda work. Native node TS is still funky, but I recommend tsbuild which barely needs setup, or just go with deno. I would also recommend pnpm for any project growing in size. Monorepo setup and local references etc just work.

Are they actively making money in some way with the name currently?

Noob question, but what does Oracle even get by keeping the JavaScript name? Why do they fight for it?

Curious why gears can’t have less then 12 teeth, is it just impractical?

In your latest videos, I immediately spotted that hangboard in the bg ;P Got me thinking, if anyone can find some beautiful math problems in climbing, it would be you. I imagined a collab with Magnus Midtbø, which would be so cool to see hahah

Hi Grant. Thank you for your work, all your videos are incredible and by far my favourite source on math topics! :)

This motivated me to try it out. Turns out your way of handling of dependencies and features like the catalog protocol finally fixed all the bugs that gave me headaches and cost me days to fix with my monorepo setup and shared be/fe code. Thanks pnpm!

I’ve enjoyed every single project you have shared. You’ve got a passion to share your passions, which I find incredibly inspiring :)

After a brief two year break, I've been back to work on my little digital logic simulation. There's a brand new version up over here if that's the sort of thing you're interested in! sebastian.itch.io/digital-logi... (and a new video too) youtu.be/HGkuRp5HfH8

As replied before haha :) (i built that exactly to find interesting chords by choosing some from a scale, then switching modes, then move into new scales via “siblings”) bsky.app/profile/josi...

You can click around to change the key and also add multiple side by side (for composing), as well as see “sibling” (I called scales which are equal siblings)

I made this basic web-app once for myself to browse chords and keys dynamically while composing (I am by no means an expert in music theory) Maybe it helps with your research. Its very bad from a UX perspective, def not for mobile :P composer-companion.vercel.app
