It's not about what he'll do: most of what he wants (assuming he's sincere, who knows) are pie-in-the-sky dreams that would bankrupt the city. It's that he won't be able to accomplish much of anything when the laws of gravity set in, which is exactly what the result his NIMBY base wants.

The left-NIMBYs are in an uneasy coalition with the center/right-NIMBYs. The former hates building more market rate housing because "developers evil", the latter because they want to freeze the town in amber. The former wants lots of public housing, the latter doesn't but knows it won't get built.

I'M the one with with no clue? Here are some coherent thoughts: 1. We're talking about ANN ARBOR LOCAL POLITICS. Cities in MI can't legally do these taxes. 2. Tariffs are taxes on imported goods/services FROM OTHER COUNTRIES. 3. Regressive taxes, by definition, HURT THE POOR and help the rich.
