Software engineer. Building things for the web, occasionally taking them too seriously. Open protocols, books, weird internet projects, and the Joshternet.

I’ve been having a lot of fun making strange little Halloween experiences for Weird Web October. Each one is something different, and I’m not going to spoil the surprises. If you enjoy Halloween, a little weirdness, and the fun side of the web, come explore. joshuamorris.info/experiments/...

How Much AI Slop Does It Take to Unslop the AI Slop? Anthropic used Claude to make Claude about three times faster. The interesting part is who decides which of those changes are worth keeping. joshuamorris.info/notes/2026/09/29/…

How Much AI Slop Does It Take to Unslop the AI Slop?
Anthropic used Claude to make Claude about three times faster. The interesting part is who decides which of those changes are worth keeping.

It’s time to join the Joshternet. Own an independent website? You can declare it part of the network with a tiny /.well-known/josh file. Josh or non-Josh, your site, content, and identity stay yours. No accounts. No platform. Just sites choosing to connect. joshternet.org/implement/

Worth Wandering #005: Bartosz Ciechanowski. His site is one of the best examples of what the web can be: deep explanations, beautiful interactive illustrations, and a browser used as more than a place to put text. joshuamorris.info/notes/2026/0...

Worth Wandering: Bartosz Ciechanowski
Bartosz Ciechanowski's interactive essays turn watches, wings, GPS, sound, and the Moon into things you can move, take apart, and test in the browser.

I’m increasingly convinced the internet peaked when a website could just be a weird little thing somebody made because they wanted it to exist. No account. No app. No growth strategy. Just HTML, a questionable domain name, and poor judgment.

I think we spend too much time arguing about which AI model is smartest. I’m more interested in what happens when imperfect models disagree, challenge each other, use tools, and test their work in a controlled sandbox. I don’t want an oracle. I want a team that can be wrong in useful ways.

A suspicious nunber of the best things on the internet start with: Nobody asked for this, but… No roadmap. No conversion funnel. No total addressable market. Just one person with an idea at 11:47 PM and enough access to DNS to make it everyone else’s problem.

Running a home network is the only production environment where the users know exactly where the engineer sleeps. There is no on-call rotation. There is only a kid standing in the doorway saying, the Wi-Fi is broken.

One of the stranger parts of living in the future is discovering which ordinary household objects have quietly developed a dependency on DNS. The lamp should not need DNS.

A modern website would like to know: Your location. Your email. Whether it can send notifications. Whether you accept cookies. Whether you’d rather use the app. I just wanted to know when the hardware store closes.

I have reached the age where half my technology problems are caused by software updates and the other half are caused by me confidently remembering how something worked in 1997.

The old web had one of the best educational features ever invented: View Source. See something cool. Open the code. Learn a trick. Break your own website with it. We called this professional development.

The internet is an astonishing achievement. Billions of devices, thousands of protocols, decades of engineering. And sometimes the whole thing still stops working because somebody saved a shell script with CRLF line endings.

Apparently joshuamorris.info is a Bluesky account now. I’m Joshua. Software engineer, web tinkerer, and currently building the Joshternet, an unnecessarily serious open network for people named Josh. This seems like a reasonable place to continue making questionable internet decisions.
