I get asked about tariff refunds a lot (I can't imagine why!). I am NOT an expert on that subject. But here's a brief note in which I refer those interested to excellent @lawfaremedia.org article by @joshuaclaybourn.bsky.social: reason.com/volokh/2026/...

A Note on Tariff Refunds
Thanks to our victory in the tariff case before the Supreme Court, businesses that paid billions of dollars in illegally collected tariffs can seek refunds. But the process may be difficult.

This month, the Supreme Court set oral argument to hear the legal challenges to President Trump's IEEPA tariffs for the first week of November. @joshuaclaybourn.bsky.social examines the legal obligation of the U.S. government to refund tariffs collected, if SCOTUS finds them to be unlawful.

On Feb 27, 1933, fire consumed Germany’s parliament building, the Reichstag. The Nazis blamed communists and warned of a revolution. Exploiting fear, Adolf Hitler persuaded President Hindenburg to issue the Reichstag Fire Decree, which suspended civil liberties and allowed arrests without trial.

Trump administration lawyers are arguing that the Library of Congress doesn’t belong to Congress — the latest move to erase the traditional lines that separate the branches of government.

It’s called the Library of Congress. But Trump claims it’s his.
The case is the latest example of efforts by the Trump administration to erase the traditional lines that separate the branches of government.

New from me at Cato: a new Trump White House memorandum exposes lawyers who oppose the federal government in court to crippling sanctions to be decided on by the feds themselves, not by courts. And few law firms have protested. The hour grows late for a basic element of constitutional liberty. /1

Republicans snuck a provision into the rule for the CR that would preemptively surrender congressional authority to block tariffs. When House Republicans vote for this rule today, they will also be voting to support Trump's tariffs and all the resulting damage to the US economy

Nifty Jimmy Carter story: A reporter asks Carter if he ever looked into Roswell Incident and his answer is a story about the CIA successfully using mediums. 😲 h/t Joshua Claybourn
One of the promises you made in 1976 was that if you were elected, you would look into the reports from Roswell and see if there had been any coverups.
Did you look into that
Well, in a way. I became more aware of what our intelligence services were doing. There was only one instance that I'll talk about now. We had a plane go down in the Central African Republic—a twinengine plane, small plane. And we couldn't find it. And so we oriented satellites that were going around the earth every ninety minutes to fly over that spot where we thought it might be and take photographs. We couldn't find it. So the director of the CIA came and told me that he had contacted a woman in California that claimed to have supernatural capabilities. And she went in a trance, and she wrote down latitudes and longitudes, and we sent our satellite over that latitude and longitude, and there was the plane.
