Seems like kind of a big oversight that the Biden OMB didn't rescind this "no longer effectuates the program goals or agency priorities" part.

I mean, when you hire a Fox News host as Secretary of Defense, you can't really be surprised when he has a Fox News-level understanding of opsec.
The end of The Atlantic article reporting a Signal chat discussing the bombing of Yemen. The paragraph reads: "All along, members of the Signal group were aware of the need for secrecy and operations security. In his text detailing aspects of the forthcoming attack on Houthi targets, Hegseth wrote to the group—which, at the time, included me—`We are currently clean on OPSEC.'”

Perfect!

I thought that these objects, Eridanus III and DELVE 1, would be ordinary star clusters. But I was wrong! The brightest star in each is extremely metal-poor, highly enriched in carbon and nitrogen, and contains very little barium and strontium. This combination doesn't exist in globular clusters. 🔭
Plots of the spectra of the brightest star in DELVE 1 and the brightest star in Eridanus III. Spectral regions including absorption from carbon, strontium, magnesium, and barium are shown, with very strong carbon absorption evident.

🔭 Paper announcement! With @alexji.bsky.social, @wcerny.bsky.social, and a host of others, we analyze some of the first spectroscopy of stars in compact (r < 10 pc), ultra-faint Milky Way satellites in arxiv.org/abs/2410.08276. Our two target systems are highlighted here:
A plot of the brightness (absolute magnitude) of the Milky Way's population of star clusters and dwarf galaxies, as a function of their size (half-light radius). Bright galaxies and clusters occupy distinct regions of this parameter space, but for the faintest objects the two classes overlap so that it is no longer possible to classify a system just from its size and luminosity. Two satellites, Eridanus III and DELVE 1, which have absolute magnitudes of -2 and 0 and sizes of about 7 pc, respectively, are plotted as red diamonds.

Last, but very definitely not least, our second-oldest fellowship is the Carnegie-Princeton Fellowship. Spend two years each at Carnegie and in #Princeton's astronomy department, taking advantage of a unique breadth of opportunities! 🔭 aas.org/jobregister/...

So we don't leave the theorists out, we are also again advertising a joint Carnegie-Caltech Theory Fellowship. This fellowship provides simultaneous access to two great astronomy departments only a 10-minute drive apart. aas.org/jobregister/... 🔭

An amazing opportunity for those that need the biggest and best telescopes on the planet: the Carnegie-Caltech Brinson Fellowship in Observational Astronomy. Divide your time between #Carnegie and #Caltech, using observing facilities from both! 🔭 aas.org/jobregister/...
