What the #superbowlhalftimeshow taught me: Joy is not confined to language. I don’t speak much Spanish, but the joy that I experienced from this halftime show transcended the language barrier. 👏

Some of the very people who told me “Bad company corrupts good character” are now the same people that STILL support 47, even though he is publicly posting racist memes of a former President and First Lady. 1/2

Happy birthday to my book “Parables: Putting Jesus’s Stories in Their Place”! This is my favorite book I’ve written so far. It was fun to write, and fun to talk about.

When people use “redneck” to mean someone who is dumb/backward it betrays the fact that they have no historical understanding of the word. It doesn’t mean someone who refuses to engage when the government is abusing its citizens. Some of y’all never heard of Blair Mountain.

Jesus was not executed for saying “Hey, we should love everyone.” Jesus was executed because he saw the brutality of empire in the streets of his community and said, “Hey, none of this is normal. None of this is okay. There’s a better way live together.” 1/2

I hate guns. I wish they didn’t exist. AND… Alex Pretti committed no crime. He had a permit to carry. He did not pull his weapon on ICE agents. There was no “brandishing.” He was being a brave, decent human. Then, he was disarmed and murdered by ICE. 1/2

The Trump regime would label Jesus as a “domestic terrorist” for his protest and resistance, if they actually understood who he was and what he meant.

No one…NO ONE…should be okay with Federal agents occupying American cities and murdering citizens in broad daylight. There’s no justification. There’s no excuse. Where you stand now is how history will remember you.

None of this is normal. Not what we did in Venezuela. Not the murder of a citizen in the streets of Minneapolis by ICE Not the threats we’re making toward the rest of the world. If we don’t stand up, use our voices, and DEMAND better, we’re all in big trouble.

Seems like a good day for this reminder: Christian Nationalism is an anti-Christ ideology and should be rejected by Christians because of our faith, not in spite of it.

I do not think that we can be more loving, compassionate, or inclusive than God. When it feels like we are, that is an indicator that our understanding of God is too small and is ready to grow. #progressivechristianity #god #faith #christianity #theology

Friends, now is the time to speak up and speak out. This is absolutely disgusting. If Trump and his fans don’t want to be compared to Nazis, then don’t cozy up to them and their symbols. If they don’t want to be labeled as racist, don’t embrace symbols of racism (for starters). 1/2

Here’s an important reminder: Christian Nationalism may talk a lot about Jesus, but it is completely void of Christlikeness. Rejecting Christian Nationalism isn’t rejecting Jesus. Rejecting Christian Nationalism is what following Jesus looks like. #christianity #christiannationalism #jesus

Don’t be surprised if, since Trump’s agenda was soundly rejected today in these elections, he begins a full court press toward authoritarianism, starting with the 2026 Midterms. We have to be resolute and courageous if that happens. The emperor is naked, and we must say so.

Paul’s words in Galatians 3, that in Christ all the hierarchies we’ve constructed meet their end, is likely an early baptismal creed. If so, the earliest creed wasn’t about believing the right things, but about announcing inclusion + belonging. We should get back to that.
