Huh
Has President Trump released his tax returns as he promised he would?
America does not summarize campaign promises or political news.
Federal law does not require a President to publish personal income tax returns. Presidents file public financial disclosure reports with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.
- President Trump's certified annual financial disclosure (posted June 30, 2026): OGE announcement 7
House Ways and Means later obtained someHouse Ways and Means later obtained some prior-year returns under tax-committee authority and made materials public in 2022.
That was a congressional action, not a voluntary White House release.
- Ways and Means materials on those claims 7
If you need a government service (taxes, disclosure rules, IRS help), ask about that step.Have other presidents released their tax returns?
Federal law does not require presidents to publish personal income tax returns. Any public release has been voluntary.
Congressional testimony used by the House Ways and Means Committee describes this practice:
• After President Nixon released several years of returns in the 1970s, later presidents often disclosed tax information.
• President Ford did not release full returns while finishing Nixon's term; in 1976 he released summary tax figures. From President Carter through President
Obama, sitting presidents typically released a complete individual return each year in office.
Sources:
• Joseph J. Thorndike testimony (Ways and
Means) 7
• CRS: Congressional Access to the President's Federal Tax Returns 7
• Example of a White House posting:
President Obama's 2015 returns (archived). 7
Presidents still file public financial disclosure reports with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, which is separate from tax returns.

Can the President or his family receive payments or titles from foreign nations?
The President
The Constitution's Foreign Emoluments Clause says no person holding an "Office of Profit or Trust" under the United States may, without the Consent of the Congress, accept any present, emolument, office, or title of any kind from a king, prince, or foreign state.

Congress cannot consent to those extra payments.

U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 1,
Clause 7 7
Whether a given payment, gift, or title is an
"emolument," and whether the Foreign
Emoluments Clause covers the President, has been debated in litigation and legal opinions. I cannot give a legal co sion about a specific case.Congress has also enacted gift rules for federal officials, including the President, in 5 U.S.C. §
7342. Those rules allow some gifts of minimal value and treat some larger gifts as accepted on behalf of the United States.
Family members
The Foreign Emoluments Clause applies to people who hold a covered federal office. Family members who do not hold such an office are not
named in that clause.
A separate federal gift statute can cover a member of the family or household of a covered official, including the President.

Bob Dylan was worshiped as a song artist, before he changed course to a new direction.
Few people want to be an object of worship.
They want the freedom to express themselves.
In a cult, leaders often become something they don't want to be. They don't worship themselves. They hate themselves. 51/91

Chat, is it good when a Republican Senator from Kansas is your only on-the-record source about how everything is great and even he seems a bit panicky? Kansas hasn’t elected a Dem Senator since the Great Depression or something.
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) said Friday that the president needs to reach the voters who typically sit midterms out.
"We need the president's base to get out and vote," he said. "There may be 200,000 people in Kansas that only vote when President Trump is on the ballot, so certainly he needs to communicate to them that he is on the ballot.
That if we lose the House, it'll just be one impeachment after another. His agenda is over with."

And an adult Basilosaurus.
A spine of fossil vertebrae leading down a slope in the desert sand, into a hole dug with more bones at the bottom. It looks to be 20-30 feet long, maybe more. Teeth sticking out of the bottom of the hole dug in the ground. Other bones from the skull gently emerge from the rock. It’s like a whale swam into the desert and quietly turned to rock.

When I say the skeletons are remarkably preserved, there are a lot that are fully articulated, which is incredibly rare for fossils. Bones usually scatter as an animal decomposes. Not these. Here’s a baby Durodon.

A yellow cliff face, blue sky above, desert sand below. Sandstone pocked with lines and holes. From the right angle it looks like musical notation or a sonogram from whales or birds. A desert landscape. Blue skies and wisps of cloud. Tall cliffs behind and in front, lumps of the same rock separated out by erosion. The wind has carved lines and pockets in them, and the layers of sandstone strata look like a musical staff. A wide yellow cliff with a hint of sky above. Flat layers of sandstone strata run across straight as a ruler. The wind carved little pockets out that look like musical notes on a score.

12. Since both permanent war and heroism are difficult games to play, the Ur-Fascist transfers his will to power to sexual matters. This is the origin of machismo (which implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality). Since even sex is a difficult game to play, the Ur-Fascist hero tends to play with weapons - doing so becomes an ersatz phallic exercise.

There is an increasingly common thing where people say racist, hateful shit, fully own the statement, and insist they didn’t say anything racist or hateful. “I fear Muslims” is a bigoted statement and it’s hateful and people should feel bad about saying it in public.

I charted city property tax revenue in real dollars vs the Seattle-area inflation rate for my little city. Everything is bad but post-COVID inflation (including tariffs, trade wars, wars, labor, etc.) is just killing cities. Road construction costs are up like 70% year over year.
Property tax in nominal dollars vs Buying power according to the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue CPI-U. Nominal dollars rise fairly linearly at around 1-2% (1% is the baseline, supplemented by increases due to redevelopment).

Buying power declines steadily from 2001 to about 2020, then inflation absolutely devastates the buying power. A decline from ~$4.8 million in 2001 to about $4.4 million in 2020 becomes ~$3.6 million by 2026.

Samuel Alito wants to strip your citizenship if you wave the flag of your ancestors’ nation(s) and cheer for them at the World Cup.
JUSTICE ALITO, dissenting.
This is one of the most important decisions in the history of the Court, and in my judgment, the Court has made a serious mistake. As interpreted by the Court today, the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on virtually everyone who happens to be born in this country, including the children of "birth tourists," women who come here solely for the purpose of giving birth to a child and then promptly return home. Careful analysis of the text of the Fourteenth Amendment and the process that led to its adoption shows that it does not degrade [sic] the concept of United States citizenship in this way. Instead, the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on only those children who, at birth, owe allegiance solely to this country.

The last sentence is highlighted.
