judging by the overhead cam shot they showed afterwards, it looked like neither runners knew it was only 1 out, but the Jays' pitcher and catcher were waltzing off as well, so guessing they were depending on the scoreboard as well (which no one should)

yes, of course; however the broadcast stated the Jays' issue was that they didn't feel they were given an opportunity for a fourth-out appeal as they were apparently directed off the field by the home plate umpire I have seen plays in the past when the defensive team makes a 4th out appeal
