Another parallel between Steve Young's '98 season and Purdy's 2026 season: per NFL Research Purdy has thrown for multiple touchdowns in each of the first four games of 2026, the longest streak to start a 49ers season since Steve Young did so in 1998 (7 straight games)

The 49ers beat a very good team at home, the Seahawks look impressive despite a lot of (questionable) penalties, and the LA Rams survive in Philadelphia #NFCBest

This version of Redzone is horrible, God I miss Andrew Siciliano

It's the 49ers offense that finally breaks the dam, Brock Purdy with a touchdown pass to Deebo Samuel, who already has 3 touchdowns on the season.

Again, hate that playcall on First and 10. Take a shot at the endzone!!

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Really disagree with that playcall. You gotta take an immediate shot at the endzone after a sudden change like that.

Whatever it takes to get that running game going

Greenlaw still has the speed to get there!

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

The game itself has a very odd feel to it. It's 3-3 but it feels like it's been all Denver. Still anyone's game, but at some point one of these offenses is going to break it open. Which one?

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Cooks clobbered this time, again NO FLAG from the officials. Defenses will continue to reign in this game.

we used to joke that Justin Herbert needed a minor lobotomy so he'd play more like Josh Allen and I fear science has gone too far

It's the same Herbert we've always known.

The rare penalty for Delay of Game on the defense. Gotta be smarter than that.

For the second time today we've seen a time-tested truth in the NFL: you cannot sneak it on 4th and longer than 1. It must be one yard or less.

The 49ers short yardage defense continues to struggle

How are you feeling about the Lock vs Darnold "debate"?

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

The film doesn't lie, the #49ers Defense struggled and Special Teams made mistakes. But the film also showed Brock Purdy playing at an elite level for the third week in a row: youtu.be/Ybi6xLvfq84?...

Elite QB play in the NFC West: Brock Purdy leads the NFL in Passer Rating, Total QBR, & Touchdown Passes, and is 3rd in Completion Percentage behind Drew Lock (Lock is 2nd, 3rd, 15th & 2nd in the same respective categories). Matt Stafford is in the Top 10 in TDs but is way down the list otherwise.

And there it is. San Francisco is 2½ games up on the Cardinals, and 2½ games up on the Rams. Seattle just one game back and they will bounce back, but LA has some work to do to climb back into the NFC West. The good news for LA is it's still very very early in the season - just Week 3.

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Brock Purdy leads the NFL with 9 Touchdown passes. That's also the most for any 49ers QB through the first three games of the season since Steve Young had 9 in that great 1998 season.

No Wide Receiver has ever won the NFL MVP Award, but JSN just might contend this year. He's doing amazing things on the football field.

Two best quarterback performances statistically (EPA per pass play) so far this season: 1. Brock Purdy last week 2. Brock Purdy today

Also, Brock Purdy finishes the day with 297 yards, 4 Touchdown passes, and a passer rating of 133.8 After a tough day by Josh Allen, is Brock Purdy now the (very very early) front runner for MVP?

000

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Also worth noting, it gives Pinero a chance to end the day on a positive note after a tough day

000

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Well, I can't technically endorse the playcall from a strategy perspective, but I can understand the desire to call that play after the ticky-tac call takes away the Brock Purdy 45 yard Touchdown run 😂😂

000

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

And then CMC bails him out with a great run for a first down 😂😂

000

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Bad decision by Shanahan to call a pass on that play, as an incompletion stops the clock BEFORE the two minute warning

000

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

If you include that penalty, the Cardinals are 3/3 on fourth downs.

030

Josh's Football Breakdowns @joshbreakdowns.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

San Francisco has passed on 10 of their last 12 plays, and their offense has stalled. I don't care how good your quarterback is, you cannot get one-dimensional, ever.
