Today's album of the day is The Argument by Fugazi, released on this date in 2001
The album's cover features a photographic illustration composed of two tightly cropped images of the bronze relief plaque on the Heald Square Monument in Chicago, Illinois: both arms of Lady Liberty extended in opposite directions, one with a torch in-hand and the other empty.

Today's album of the day is Nimrod by Green Day, released on this date in 1997
After three art directors were rejected by the band and pressing was behind schedule, Green Day asked the help of Chris Bilheimer, a friend of Armstrong who had done covers for another group signed by Warner Bros. Records, R.E.M. Having just the album title to work on, Bilheimer had some ideas, with one taking inspiration from a photo Bilheimer had seen, where a politician's poster had his face removed. He felt the image was "striking" and seemed to fit the band by featuring "a typical middle-age male, corporate politician American kind of guy, and someone had completely taken his identity away through vandalism." Following that line of thought, Bilheimer took an encyclopedia picture of men in suits and ties and put colored circles reading "nimrod." on their faces, "using that to take away the people's identity".

Today's album of the day is In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, released on this date in 1969
Barry Godber (1945–1970), a computer programmer friend of Sinfield's, painted the design for the album cover. He used his own face, viewed through a mirror, as the model. Godber died in February 1970 from a heart attack, shortly after the album's release. He was 24 years old. It was his only painting; the original painting is now owned by Robert Fripp. Fripp had said about Godber's artwork: "Peter [Sinfield] brought this painting in and the band loved it. I recently recovered the original from [managing label E.G. Records's] offices because they kept it exposed to bright light, at the risk of ruining it, so I ended up removing it. The face on the outside is the Schizoid Man, and on the inside it's the Crimson King. If you cover the smiling face, the eyes reveal an incredible sadness. What can one add? It reflects the music."

Today's album of the day is The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest, released on this date in 1991
The black that dominates the cover art, like The Dark of the Moon, another visual statement. Even the nude model, who looked like she stepped off a Ohio Players cover, dabbed in Paddy Crofton’s vibrant fluorescent makeup splashes off the sleeve much like Steely Dan’s Aja did.

Meant to be eye-popping, it’s that as well as alluringly Afrocentric. The use of red and green phosphorescent explode off the black background. Illustrative of the group’s music affirmation, its culture colorfully distinguishable. With photographs by Brooklyn’s Joe Grant and cover design by JK and ZombArt, the art surges off the album’s canvas as distinctly as the title hugs the dark figure’s low end. Well, that’s the theory, so I’ve heard.
