Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Is there a good name for effort absolutists? I'm looking at water softening for my coffee machine, and as is typical of the coffee world you very quickly descend into "if you're not installing an industrial filtration system you should probably give up on coffee all-together". 120
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 16/01/2025I think it's the reason you see his influence in so much queer and marginalised art now - his success was a banner to rally under that said, 'We are not few, we are just fragmented.' 031
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 16/01/2025When so much media refuses to look into the dark places it can sometimes feel like you're being gaslit. Lynches work was the remedy for that feeling. 010
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 16/01/2025Lynch took all the terror and chaos of a bottomless universe and somehow put it on screen. Art doesn't always have to explain a thing, sometimes it's enough to just point and say "yes, I see that weird shit too". 010

Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 26/11/2024You can't just make something that hits my niche interests but not actually make it good. I mean yes I'll still buy it, but I'll be annoyed about it. 020
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 18/11/2024A totally random example: in the 1998 movie Fallen, Denzel Washington is not an undercover angel working as a cop; he is in fact a cop working to uncover a fallen angel. 020
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 18/11/2024That thing where you've misunderstood a film blurb and spend most of the movie waiting for a very specific plot point to kick in. There should be a word for that. 110
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 17/11/2024We should rename stop motion 'puppet fondling'. 120
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 17/11/2024Also if you like watching my hands go really fast, have a look at this. I'd say this is proof that it's not made with ai, but tbh it kind of looks more like ai that the final version. 341
Joseph Brett @josephbrett.bsky.social · 17/11/2024Hi! I was thinking about your PhD the other day and remembered this, which feels vaguely relevant: 110
