Geologist, educator, parent to 2 outstanding humans, often perplexed. Folks who say "Dumb as a rock" should take a geo class to learn to speak rock.

I think it is quite unfortunate that @traderjoesunited.bsky.social doesn't mention a single item about the fabulous geology on this label. PS it's also very tasty chocolate!
Colorful layers of tilted rock in Peru make upside down "V" patterns because they are eroded. This looks like painting of a real landscape, but it may be a digital version of a real landscape.

1/2 So I'm slowly recycling all these #StructuralGeology journals from our department (sad) when I realized the reason some of them were sticking together is because apparently in certain years they have plasticized covers. Oh @elsevierconnect.bsky.social, how could you?? Now I have

This matchup is separated by a much smaller unit than the giant spodumene crystal from the Etta Pegmatite in the Black mining Hills of South Dakota. Went here in field camp (about the time of the linked photo haha) so voting spod for sentimental reasons... USGS/Dakota Matrix Minerals photo ~1890

Haha only for the last 40 yeats or so, but I justify it by being at least peripherally employed as a geologist for all that time. Not that that matters, once a geologist, forever a geologist! PS pardon the crude photo, this is the kind of thing my family now do for scale

Despite a few years of being a (not very good) gymnast and many more years of watching the fancy gymnasts, I have only now realized all still rings routines are CGI, because physics doesn't allow that stuff

I have to say I do have a soft spot for #kyanite. It's a harder soft spot depending on which direction of my sentiments is being tested. (image courtesy of Wikimedia Commons)
