OpenPnP GPU processing results: - baseline, upstream's code, opencv on CPU + some java image kernels 100% CPU usage (1 core) - OpenCV T-API (OpenCL) 20% CPU usage with lots of GPU driver CPU overhead - Vulkan with command queue caching 5% CPU usage 20X performance improvement all done by claude.

I'm thinking to make a spiritual V2 to wireguard. I love it but it lacks Post-Quantum encryption unless you use PSK and even then it still lack PQ-PFS. I'm thinking a userland IPsec daemon that use wireguard's config format and options but with TLS1.3 handshake and X25519MLKEM768 keys.

#golang compiler maintainer life: I dusted off my SG2042 64 core RISC-V server. Would be great to run Go's CI. It was broken (wouldn't boot), turns out 1/4 stick of ram works good enough to pass training, but hardlocks the boot process. The single core performance is abysmal, multicore is ok.

XCHG AX, ... is 1 byte shorter than MOV AX, ... And on Ryzen CPUs it execute as 2 register renames so there isn't a major performance cost to using it.

I've just finished a deep-dive on Intel APX github.com/golang/go/is... and the new CFCMOVcc and CCMPcc (as well as CTESTcc) instructions look very cool. You can remove branches from && and || even if they have (basic) memory side effects.

New surprisingly good go optimization, I've reduced the codesize by 2% with a simple change ! This changes the end of most functions from 2 instructions: add %rsp, $offset pop rbp To a single: leave Once encoded we go from 5 bytes to 1 byte. go-review.googlesource.com/c/go/+/548317

Just installed Sunshine and Moonlight, crazy good. The GPU encoding performance is awesome. Sadly using HEVC not AV1 as only one of my computer has an hardware AV1 implementation. (the one using intel arc)

This one is pretty funny go.dev/issue/77934. Turns out a struct used for Go ←→ Linux syscalls use int64 when Linux expects int32. But by chance this can't cause a bug because: 1. it is the last field of the struct 2. the size of the struct doesn't change since C aligns int64 to 8 bytes on 32 bits

I cold compiled Firefox today. Not in artifact mode, a complete compile. And it finished in 35 minutes ! 35 !!! Linux takes a bit more than an hour. I was ready to come back tomorrow. How is it so fast ?

Ok so I did the math, results are crazy. My household is currently paying 0.19€/kWh this is 3312€ a year, yes it's a lot, reasons include a broken heatpump and 2EVs. For 1k€ I can buy 5kw of solar panels, a 6kw for 1.1k€ more. As you might have noticed, if I install them myself, 2100€ < 3312€.

Never before I thought the performance of rm needed to be improved. I need to remove a single directory with a few hundred millions of files. I know it looks insane but it's on a modern file system (btrfs) so it works fine. Anyone got multithreaded faster alternatives to suggest ?

Straight from an episode of MacGyver Russia's new Anti-Air drone consist of a manpad (shoulder mounted anti-air launcher) attached on top of a shahed (originally Iranian kamikaze fixed wing UAV).

Shahed drone crashed in snow with a manpad mounted above the airframe.

It's 2026 and I don't believe I am saying this. But I am paying for a search engine because the experience is superior to google (Kagi). Much faster that google with it's bloated tracking. Results are more relevant to what I care about.

When will a general purpose ISA add a programmable logic instruction ? One 4LUT per output bit, inputs indexed from 2×64bits source operand bits = 352 config bytes, with PTL 131456 transistors (11 transistors delay). Would replace many instructions in algorithms where each bit has different logic.

New debugging tech: have you tried turning on the AC ? I was debugging a random once a day crash in the go runtime, turns out my ram was at >100°C. Disabling XMP for now. Shame ECC isn't standard on consumer hardware.

After nine months of inactivity my 3D printer started failing all prints while I need to make parts for a manufacturing machine. I post a photo on a random discord and within minutes I get an expert telling me exactly what is wrong and how to fix it. Maker communities are truly a magic place.
