After implementing Compression Dictionaries back in December, I sat down with @yoav.ws and @patmeenan.com to discuss getting the most out of them and provide some visuals for those new to the concept. Check out the video below: youtu.be/YR2er3EiYnM / lessonsofacto.com/videos/032-c...

My friends over at RUMvision.com have sent me a lovely gift. I think my boys love it as much as I do, though they are mostly interested in fighting over occupation of the box. Thank you @jordyscholing.bsky.social, @erwinhofman.bsky.social and @karlijnlowik.bsky.social ❤️

For example this pretty normal Dutch webshop in terms of what they sell (curtains and roller blinds) has a support of 86,4% A gambling site in Eastern Europe has support for 70,3%. So geo and what you sell will heavily impact Baseline.

Funny thing; I was checking Baseline support for view-transitions for a publisher client of our and noticed that the support for Safari was quite high... FYI: Safari supports view-transitions on version 18 or above. Combining Baseline with RUM data is goated...

P99 would be impressive (considering it's ecommerce)... Ton of extensions, unless the merchants know their stuff and doesn't add things blatantly

Haha, I think yours passes INP on P95... This one not (yet). Yeah, I've been focussing on it more and more over the years, the more you learn the easier it is to achieve good numbers above P75. What's your goal? P99.9?

A side- effect of #speculationrules is that CrUX shows a degradation in TTFB. Reason? CrUX unfortunately excludes TTFB from pre-rendered pages (subsequent navigations). As a result, the CrUX dataset for TTFB contains a relatively larger amount of slower landing pages. #webperf

Some fun stats: The average Core Web Vitals of RUMvision domains (mobile P75) • LCP: 1988ms • CLS: 0.025 • INP: 198ms 😅 • FCP: 1356ms • TTFB: 767ms Q1 2025 I want that INP to be below 180ms. This is a sample of 25M datapoints.

From 20% bf_cached navigations to just 5%... Seems to be caused by developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W... Anyone from Meta in my follower list? I think this might cause a lot of websites not being able to use bf_cache to its full potential. We can do better 💙
As a result, some browsers won't attempt to put a page in bfcache in the following scenarios:

Pages with an open IndexedDB connection
Pages with in-progress fetch() or XMLHttpRequest
Pages with an open WebSocket or WebRTC connection

Jordy Scholing @jordyscholing.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Too bad to see that when you are working hard to get a website to use bf_cache as much as possible, but an external party (Meta JS SDK) ensures that the percentage of bf_cache navigations is now back to square one. It was not an issue before, so I think there's been a change in their code?
