Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 25/08/2026The gloves are to protect his hands while moving stuff around. Its a bit of a myth that gloves while cooking are cleaner. Bare hands washed at proper times are just as clean. In fact often gloves are dirtier because of a false sense of cleanliness unless someone is constantly changing their gloves 2221

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 20/08/2026I mean before the AI arms race I feel like I had a fairly neutral opinion on them. I know they are needed for the modern internet age, and I would have been a little annoyed if it raised my electrical bill a bit, but I didn't think about them much. 2702
Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 21/07/2026If you first accept that someone wants to see it on Fflm, then you're really asking "What is the difference between copying the film from 35mm to 35mm or copying the film from 35 onto 70mm. The copy will introduce NEW grain and artifacts on either format, and on 70mm the grain is more diffused. 000

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 09/07/2026I feel bad for anyone who actually uses this as a reference when visiting a city. If they can be this off with Chicago & Tampa I assume its pretty useless for anywhere. 220

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 16/02/2026Its wild how craven Xfinity still is. Somewhere along the line they fully removed the ability to canel online, you have to schedule a callback, and even then they put you on hold. And then I think I had an AI on the phone explain to me that they do it so it'll be a pleasant "human interaction" 🙄 010

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 30/12/2025It is a useful tool! You can use it with ->assertJson as well. I always find it helpful when backfilling tests, when you don't have all the assertions and just need ignore the rest of the body. It's helpful to know that there is more that you aren't asserting against. 010

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 10/10/2025I've been using an old iPhone 12 for a bit after being an Android person forever and was (sort of) coming around to iOS, but man I'll switch back to Android in a heartbeat before I "upgrade" to Liquid Glass. 000
Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 09/10/2025At least he's in good company. The classic detective "Thin Man" movies are all have "Thin Man" in the title even though that was a reference to the first mystery and just stuck. 050
Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 01/10/2025Yeah, I tend not to use AI to write anything big, I try and keep it isolated to things I need help with. Just a "Fancy Autocomplete". I've never understood why "writes code fast" is a benefit. Wanna know what is easy? Writing code. Wanna know what is hard? Maintaining code that was written fast. 110

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 13/09/2025Instead of having an individual password on your SSH key (or no password), you use a key that is stored in your password manager. When a program accesses that key the password manager launches an auth window. It's nice because you can then keep your key locked, but use fingerprint to unlock. 030

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 18/08/2025Yeah since I realized how arbitrary their scores are based on rating Chicago so much lower than cities I've ridden in that are just objectively worse, I have just written off their rankings as a resource entirely. It does not reflect the reality on the ground. 030
Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 13/07/2025It definitely has made me look down a bit on a number of devs. I have to think a lot of these folks think of themselves as "apolitical". Or benefit of the doubt maybe they don't use the algorithmic feed. I know folks who only use their curated lists so they just haven't seen as much of the shift. 010

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 21/01/2025I love me some CI/CD, but debugging a devops problem can feel like the worst game of whack-a-mole. Every time you squash an error you just are hit with the next one it was hiding. 000

Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 28/12/2024Kinda wild to see a critic complaining that people are engaging deeper with art and learning about an artist. Jordan Welch @jordanwelch.com · 15/12/2024Just saw the new release of Interstella 5555 and it was really great to listen to Daft Punk live in a theater.
