Yeah, I’m going to stick with Skubal, thanks. Hate that they’re facing each other. 10 pts for wins are often a big determinant of who wins each week in our league.

What’s your H2H pts approach on 2 SP aces who face each other in a 1-start week for both? I have that dilemma with Schlittler vs Skubal. Definitely starting Schlittler. Leaning toward sitting Skubal for Early or Sheehan, as odd as it sounds. Win is 10 pts, loss is -5 pts. Big week vs No. 1 team.

Super early question: where would you rank Ben Rice at 1B next season? I have Cal Raleigh as a keeper with 18th round value, so drafting Rice would mean 1B or CI.

Malik shows promise. He’s making very fast and good decisions. The ball comes out fast. Also it’s FAU. And those 11 first half penalties … yikes. But Terps after the 1st quarter are doing what they need to do against a bad opponent.

Let’s stop putting the onus on Orioles fans to be louder and show up more. Going to games is very expensive and takes a lot of time out of people’s lives. If the Orioles show that they care as much as fans do, they’ll draw more crowds. It’s really that simple.

Now the Padres are averaging 42,000 fans per game. From 1992-99, the Orioles averaged 42,000 fans or more. Granted, that was a different time before the Nationals and Camden Yards was new. But the Orioles actually tried to win it all and invested in players.

In 2021, the Padres averaged 27,000 fans per game. Since then, they signed Tatis long-term, traded for Soto, re-signed Machado, and made many other significant moves. The Padres don’t just say they want to win a World Series. They act like it.

This really isn’t hard to understand. It’s not bells and whistles. It’s acquiring and keeping good players. Show fans that you’re truly trying to win and Camden Yards will be rocking. From 2012-14, Baltimore drew more fans than San Diego while going for it with playoff runs.

This is the single biggest reason the Orioles’ rotation is a disaster. Elias will not draft pitchers early. I appreciate this as a fantasy strategy. But if you do it every year in real life, you better have a great pitching development program or be willing to trade prospects for pitching.

100% accurate. Elias is afraid to take risks and unwilling to lose future value. He can’t part with prospects he loves. He can’t overpay on contracts that may help in the short term and later become bad. It’s maddening and it’s losing fans.

You have more faith in the offense than I do. There’s definitely talent and they’ll have some hot games. But it’s very inconsistent. Basically none of their most talented hitters are in their prime yet. And there’s a lot of swing and miss. O’s really could have used Alex Bregman.

As someone who consistently watches and follows the Orioles, I don’t see it in 2025. There is no one coming to the rescue for the rotation anytime soon that would resemble the Astros’ 2024 rotation. It’s a very flawed roster too reliant on young hitters & old pitchers. Feels like a lost season.

What do you make of Abbott? Reese Olson or Abbott? I picked up Abbott last night after seeing his dominance in person against my sorry Orioles. Abbott feels like mostly a 2-start pitcher only in a points league. I may be able to live with that.

I heard your interest for Jordan Walker. There is immense talent there. He’s on my waiver wire in 10-team points league. But the only hitter I could drop is Kristian Campbell. Or I drop a pitcher like Sugano, but that means 3 bench hitters. Either worth dropping for Walker as a lottery ticket?

I don’t think Orioles were ever going to bring Flaherty back. Too many bitter feelings. Mayo could have been part of a package to the White Sox for at least 2 years of Crochet, who’s instead with a rival in Boston.

Elias has done a lot of things well. Excellent drafter. Developed good core of hitters. Rejuvenated some careers with project players. But Elias has not shown yet he can make bold moves needed to be a championship GM. That’s the next step, not always making moves at the margins.

Everyone who follows the team knew it was foolish to bank on Grayson right now as a 1 or 2. He has to prove he can stay on the field first. The bullpen is actually shakier than the rotation as they gradually work Felix back.

O’s are in their window RIGHT NOW to contend for a World Series in a weak AL. They have talented, young, controllable, cheap players. Gunnar is 4 years away from free agency, meaning questions about trading him could be 2 years away.
100
jonsolomon35.bsky.social @jonsolomon35.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
Yep, Mayo could have been traded this offseason. As an Orioles fan, here’s the deal. Elias loves his prospects and longterm value. He will rarely make a move that calculates him “losing” the deal later. Even the Burnes 2024 trade, which was smart, was reactive because Bradish was hurt.

jonsolomon35.bsky.social @jonsolomon35.bsky.social · 08/03/2025
Agreed. There’s a lot I like about Elias. He has drafted and developed a lot of good hitters. (We’ll see on pitchers.) But this was a critical offseason with more ownership money for Elias to prove he can take the next step by being bold to become a championship GM. I think he failed.

To Elias, these injuries scream, “Sign Kyle Gibson.” It was such a disappointing offseason that’s magnified by these injuries. They’re too reliant on Grayson as a No. 1 and they added an injured reliever in Kittredge after passing on Hoffman.
000
jonsolomon35.bsky.social @jonsolomon35.bsky.social · 08/03/2025
Yep. This pitching staff already wasn’t good enough to win a World Series. Right now, this feels like an 84 to 88 win team.

Good question. I’ve wondered this too. Now watch Hoffman end up being healthy in 2025. That would be the cherry on top of such a disappointing offseason.

Kremer is definitely replaceable. I just don’t trust Pivetta at the financial and draft pick costs. Kremer is a lot cheaper than Pivetta for the next 3 years. And a cheaper Kremer means more trade deadline flexibility to add this season.

I actually would like a legit closer to ease Felix back in. Just not convinced Suarez is the guy in exchange for losing Kremer, adding Pivetta (good stuff but erratic) and a draft pick. I wish O’s would trade for 1 year of Ryan Helsley. Doubt it happens.

I don’t see that either. Suarez has some warts as a reliever who basically only throws fastballs. I’d rather keep Kremer. No way Elias gives up a draft pick for Pivetta. He loves his picks!
