Jack Kirby was a master of the 1st issue. He knew how to hook the reader and get them back for issue 2. This issue is full of exceptional art and big, sci fi ideas that are relevant today. This is a perfect comic. You likely won’t find it in a dollar box. But, if you find it, buy it!

Soule is doing a better job fleshing out Kylo Ren’s character than any of the movies did. Sliney’s panel to panel storytelling is solid. The space battles are fun. They feel like Star Wars. I really enjoyed this issue. The last series made me like Kylo more. So far this is adding to that feeling.

Kirkman is doing a wonderful job developing the side characters in this arc. Howard continues to turn in solid work. The action is big and energetic. This was another fun issue that advanced a lot of plot points. There’s a lot going on in this book, and I’m very interested in what will happen next.

Nicieza’s writing in this issue is solid. I particularly love what he’s doing with Beast. Kubert does breakdowns, not full pencils, in this issue. That means more of the art duties fell on Matt Ryan, and he did a fantastic job. This is a fun issue. If you find this while digging, definitely grab it.

Johnson has finally showed us a glimmer of hope in this issue. We can see a possible way for them to defeat Infernal Hulk. Gorham’s work is so impressive. Johnson and all the artists he’s worked with on Hulk have really given us some incredible stories. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This is a brilliant 1st issue written by Multari. The story could have worked in multiple ways, which is a testament to how strong the core of the story is. Park’s art is a lot of fun. If you like indie comics I highly recommend seeking this out. @lonewolfcomics.bsky.social

I picked this up after Williamson posted that this issue acts as a sort of lead in to his upcoming Legion of Super Heroes series. It’s so much more than that. This is one of the best Superman stories I’ve ever read. It’s brought to life wonderfully by Barrows and Putri. I highly recommend this.

Kim has crafted an excellent story, full of twists and turns that I just did not see coming. This issue is action packed. We are led through every sequence with Perez’s incredible panel to panel storytelling. Do yourself a favor and get your hands on this series.

My 2 biggest problems with this magazine so far have been the length of the interviews and the amount of typos. The typos are gone. As for the interviews, those were all longer in this issue due to the page count being expanded to 40 pages. If you love comics, you should be reading this magazine!

This is a fantastic anniversary issue. It celebrates the past, while spotlighting what’s so special about North’s run on the book. Ramos’s art is incredible. The issue is filled with his dynamic action and wonderful depictions of the team’s powers. Go out and buy this comic!!

Nicieza gives us an effective story, and it’s written rather well. I enjoy the way Kubert draws Sabretooth, especially here where he’s able to show him in his older costume. This is an enjoyable story that could have implications down the line. If you see it in a dollar bin, you should scoop it up.

Watters is doing an excellent job defining who all these characters are at their core. I’ve mentioned before how perfect Parr is for this series, as he is a master at illustrating all kinds of vehicles. In this issue, Parr shows us how good he is at drawing people in action, too. I loved this issue.

Simone lets us into Al’s mind, as well as Jessica’s. It’s all very beautiful. So is Guara’s art. The action is fun and in your face. When things quiet down, Al and Jessica both are given such expressive faces. This was an incredible issue, and I’m so excited to see how they wrap this story up.

Douek does a great job setting the tone of this story from the beginning. Smith was a fantastic choice to draw this book. I’ve been a big MOTU fan since I was a kid. When I saw Smith was drawing this, I had to add it to my pull list. I highly recommend checking this issue out!

Zub delivers a fantastic story. Dagnino gives us some dynamic art. Titan Comics is putting out amazing comics based on Robert E. Howard creations right now. This issue, which is a great jumping on point, really takes advantage of how versatile Conan is. It’s another strong recommendation from me.

This ending feels slightly rushed. It’s not that Veitch wrote a bad issue, it just wraps up very fast. Mandrake turns in some really cool pages. Spectre looks absolutely amazing in his short appearance. Despite my issues with the story, this is a good end to this series. I definitely recommend this.

I feel like Nicieza tried very hard to make this storyline incredibly profound and emotional. It mostly just feels overly complicated. Kubert opens the issue with the X-Men taking on Spiral, and that’s fun and dynamic. I’m still really enjoying my reread of this series.

MacKay gives us an excellent “let’s assemble a team” story in this issue. It’s a common trope. But, when executed well it’s extremely fun. This is all shown to us by the incredible Pramanik. Every page is a masterpiece. I love the work these guys are doing, and I can’t wait for issue 7!

Zircher introduces us to a lot of characters in this issue, but he does it in an easy to digest way. I love that he is writing, drawing, and coloring this series. His art is beautiful. This is his 2nd Solomon Kane series. I loved the 1st one. This issue is an awesome start to this one.

Kirkman is planting the seeds of friendship here, as we get wonderfully written scenes between Darak and Pythona. Hughes is such a great artist. There’s not much action in this issue, but Hughes is able to capture all the emotional beats splendidly. I really enjoyed this issue.

Sacks dialogue feels authentic to the movies. Morales and Mercado are such a great team. I love the looseness of the line art. This series has been so enjoyable, with an interesting story and art that is a lot of fun to look at. I definitely recommend this, and I can’t wait for the next issue.

North once again presents a scientific problem that a couple characters need to solve. The solution? I’m not going to spoil it. But it’s very fun and creative. Rosanas does some fantastic work in this issue. I love this issue so much! I’m having a blast with what they are doing with this series.

I love what Titan Comics is doing with this series. They’re bringing in top talent to not only tell more Conan stories, but also put a spotlight on the many other characters that Howard created. You can pick up any issue of this series and get a satisfying reading experience.

Nicieza gives us a lot of backstory dealing with Psylocke and Revanche. Some of Kubert’s compositions are very interesting. The color in this issue is different. Marvel is clearly experimenting with digital coloring. Portions of this issue look really good, others do not.

After a successful run on The Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel decided to give Todd McFarlane his own Spider-Man series to write and draw. To say it was a hit is a massive understatement. Now, all these years later, this is a really fun issue to take another look at. It’s just an incredible comic book!

When I was a kid, I would sometimes sneak into my older brother’s room and read his comics. This comic is one of the first I remember reading. Buscema’s art always stuck with me. I remember the way it made me feel, as the menacing Tombstone beat Spidey with a metal pipe. This issue is spectacular!

This issue, written and penciled by Cooke, has really good characterization. His pages are sparse at times, but all the important details are there. His thick, bold lines make every shape and figure stand apart from one another. Cooke’s art is very distinct and so much fun. I recommend this issue.

The only reason I’ve stuck with this is for Corona’s art. It’s wild and weird in the best way. His action scenes are so over the top. I have a blast looking at every panel. I wish the story was half as good. Don’t get me wrong, Young is not a bad writer. This story just isn’t doing anything for me.

Williamson knows how to write exciting stories with great character development. Milana continues to show incredible versatility in his art. The action reads clear, and moves at a great pace. It’s engaging and fun. This issue really does have it all. I absolutely love this series.

Johnson is rewarding us with payoffs from both this and his previous series. Gorham is killing it right now. The monsters are grotesque. The violence is intense and there’s plenty of gore. The body horror is beautifully executed. I have no idea what will happen next, and I love that feeling!

Nicieza uses Professor X’s inner monologue to lead us through this issue. Kubert once again is given tons of talking head scenes, and makes every page interesting. He uses a lot of subtle gestures throughout. This issue might not be for everyone, but I loved it in the 90s, and I still do today.

I’m impressed with how much story Simone is able to fit into a single issue. Romboli’s art is so much fun to look at. I especially love her depiction of motion. When people throw punches, the impact is beautifully drawn, with wild distortion and chaotic lines. I love everything about this comic!

Set in 1949, this manga, written and drawn by Urasawa (with co-author Nagasaki) is simply amazing. This volume gives us mystery, murder, Japanese history, comic and manga history, and excellent character development. I can’t wait to read volume 2.

Percy didn’t phone this series in, and this issue was a satisfying end. Musabekov is an outstanding artist. His panel to panel storytelling is fantastic. He draws everything really well, and he keeps getting better. I can’t wait to see what he does next. I really enjoyed this series a lot.

This is a solid issue written by Kirkman. Howard’s art is very good. There’s lots of big, flashy moments that look flat out cool. He also makes Arkeville look as crazy as Kirkman writes him. I love the cartooning in his facial expressions. This issue was a really fun entry in the series.

We are 5 issues in to this publication, and there has barely been any attention given to a Marvel title. I understand that the chatter online can basically be summed up as “Marvel sucks”. But there are some fantastic Marvel books with great creative teams. That said, this was another fun issue!

There is a lot of dialogue, as well as inner monologues, in this issue. Perhaps, too much. However, it’s all written fairly well by Nicieza. But, Kubert keeps it from getting boring with dramatic close ups and interesting shading. Overall, while this issue isn’t perfect, it is fun.

Venditti has created a world with a lot of interesting characters. Hairsine is a wonderful storyteller. Every page is easy to follow. His fight scenes are well choreographed and downright brutal at times. I’m glad there’s 1 more issue, as that means I get to spend more time with these characters.

Bernardin gets to the core of Gerrera, and in a single issue explains everything about him. Guzman’s art is detailed and gritty. He captures Gerrera’s pain, hate, anger, and loss every time he draws his face. This is a fantastic one shot. I’d love to see this creative team work together again.

Hotton’s dialogue is pretty good. This comic is full of dynamic poses and insane action. The fight scenes are wild, with Pitt taking bullets and laser blasts to the face. Despite the mayhem, Keown keeps everything very clear. This comic is bonkers. It’s over the top and violent in such a fun way.
