Fuck me "that" keynote is something, "88 oops 86" "look oops a blog is the same as oops slop" "more code in 2 months than 20 years but I haven't looked at it "the cold war was good actually" "take the white pill, the black pill is for fucking losers"!?!

So... if someone were to want to move a large ruby open source project from Github to Codeberg... how would people feel? What would be the success criteria? Would some form of mirroring be needed?

"we're seeing an insane push for LLM adoption in all lines of work, however inappropriate, because they directly exploit a cognitive bias to which senior management is vulnerable."

👋 I’m on the look out for my next project, I’m an experienced Elixir dev (> 8 years, and > 10 years of Ruby before that + I'm still the maintainer of RSpec), very familiar with Phoenix and LiveView, and have enough CSS / JS knowledge to approach projects from a full stack angle. I’ve worked […]

Periodic reminder: @rubycentral is smearing Andre in public so they can justify their hostile takeover of the rubygems/rubygems repo after the fact. An actual community-focused organization would have followed the RFC process which was already in progress.

Too little... too late @rubycentral this change should have been announced and publicised in advance of you actually doing it, with a clear timeline, and time for the community to respond **before** you did it. rubycentral.org/news/strengthening-…

Strengthening the Stewardship of RubyGems and Bundler
Ruby Community, At the heart of Ruby Central’s mission is our responsibility to steward the open source tools that power the Ruby ecosystem. That commitment is only as strong as the people and processes behind it. Over the past several months, we have been carefully reviewing how RubyGems.org,

Dear David
Dear David, Ruby has brought me immense joy during my life and I’ve made many close friends thanks to a shared love of the language. Rails, thanks to the contributions of you and hundreds of others, has allowed me to experience that joy at work too. However, I can’t describe how disappointed I was to read your recent blog post “As I remember London”. I remember when you visited the London Ruby User Group. We didn’t speak but you came to the after-talk drinks at a packed Lamb and Flag pub. I’m sure when you looked around that pub you saw, like me, a couple of hundred rubyists of many different nationalities, backgrounds, ethnicities. I’m sure several of those rubyists shook your hand, welcomed you to London and made sure you had a drink. That, to me as a Londoner, is London in microcosm. Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (aka Tommy Robinson) does not campaign for “Britain for the Brits”. He campaigns, as I’m sure you’re aware from the Wikipedia page you cited as evidence, for Britain for White Brits. As a White Brit he doesn’t make me feel proud, or patriotic. He makes me feel scared - scared for my wife, my non-White British friends, my neighbours, the teachers of all races and religions who teach my kids. But we won’t give up. We did survive the Blitz (my grandparents fought the Nazis). Britain hasn’t gone anywhere. Minaswan, Chris

Today is my last day at Shopify. I joined in 2016 and had the time of my life, great engineering and people, they brought me to Canada and for that I’ll be eternally grateful. But they’re also proudly hosting swastikas for sale, taking the idea of “make commerce better for everyone” a little […]

Anyone have experience with getting rubocop running in a monorepo environment? I have a strange issue where by running it in the directories produces no results, but running it from the root picks up the individual configs and runs them all together, unless I configure all cops in the root […]
