Here in the UK, 2018 was the hottest summer on record, then 2025 was the hottest summer on record and now 2026 is the hottest summer on record as well as being very dry. Here is a climate/weather summary for the past 12 months showing the multiple heatwaves we have had. #globalwaming #climatechange

One of our motivations for writing this was a prevalent misconception that blocking systems are becoming more common. They aren’t. They’re projected to become less frequent. However, the hot and dry spring is consistent with climate change. @ncas-uk.bsky.social @uniofstandrews.bsky.social

Here's my thoughts on the latest round of discussion about the slowing of the Atlantic overturning circulation. It's a bit nerdy - but the short summary is: in my view the balance of evidence strongly suggests that the #AMOC has slowed since the late 19th C. 🌊 www.realclimate.org/index.php/ar...

RealClimate: The AMOC is slowing, it’s stable, it’s slowing, no, yes, …
RealClimate: There's been a bit of media whiplash on the issue of AMOC slowing lately - ranging from the AMOC being "on the brink of collapse" to it being "more stable than previously thought". AMOC, of course, refers to the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, one of the worlds major ocean circulation systems which keeps the northern

Has the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) weakened over the last decades? In our new study, we combine state-of-the-art CMIP6 models and observation-based estimates of the air-sea heat flux in the North Atlantic to show that the AMOC has not declined since the 1960s! 🌊
