Sad to report that Jonathan, a Seychelles giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea hololissa) and the world's oldest land animal, passed away at the age of 193.

We had to say goodbye our little bundle of joy on Friday. Lucy was the kindest and gentlest soul that ever walked this earth. She was our baby, our work buddy, our playmate, our reluctant travel companion, and both our bedtime and wake up alarm. She was super shy, but quickly won over everyone.

For those of you in #conservation #genomics, we show that haplotigs reduce SNP discovery and estimates of nucleotide diversity. Haplotigs also affect estimates of population structure and outlier detection, but the impacts are more nuanced.

Important reminder that one-way masking is not full proof. Went to a conference this week. I wore a well-fitting N95 at all times in indoor spaces that weren’t my hotel room. Only ate outdoors or alone in my hotel room. The only way I could have been more careful was to not go.
