Removing any threats and debts against me makes me shine. I work well then because I focus on the value of the work itself, not the imposed fictional value of money or debt. Likewise if I need something, I ask more readily because I'm not going to get punished for my needs.

I'm bad at making money. I daydream a lot, am motivated only when I'm happy and safe, I tire easily, I need lots of breaks that I can't schedule. I'm not efficient, I can be slow, late, or absent, and I am repulsed by any and all bullshit. I'm also clever, accurate, and creative. Classic AuDHD.

It is based on the idea that if you hold enough of others' debts, you will be fine, you have control. But it always does it at the expense of someone who does not have control. There is an illusion of choice but with violence as the consequence of not playing, there is no choice. Make money or die.

Capitalism is a disease of the mind that has, is, and will destroy us.

If we are to aim for freedom and equality in our lives, it is pointless to have a system that defines everything in terms of inequality, whose job it is to discriminate and restrict freedom based on arbitrary numerical values. That is a system of control that only benefits some by design.

Holding money is holding others' debts, the promise they will labor or give you something in exchange. Like holding a grudge, it does not encourage forgiveness: destroying the money and letting go of the debt. Forgiveness is healing, letting us return to the homeostasis that we are equal and free.

This episode felt like the best possible thing you could get from that formula, a nice time travel episode about growth, about how every day you make choices that will grow you into who you will become, that we are all space babies. It's good. But that's all it is. Jim Henson's Star Trek Babies.

A controversial opinion I have is that in TNG, Picard should have died from the Borg and then everyone has to rank up and keep going. He could come back sometimes but the show should inherently be about handing things off to the ones coming up next. That kind of happened anyway so it doesn't matter.

SNW doesn't really do much that is new. A bit of backstory that Spock used to be less sure of himself, Kirk was less sure of himself, Uhura was less sure of herself, Scotty was less sure of himself… And then a bunch of random scifi pastiche with an occasional glance at ethics and morals.

The best Star Treks did something new. The Movies showed you could make fully character based stories. TNG showed it could be anyone on that ship not just those same guys. DS9 showed what happens when you stay and help instead of trek. VOY removes all structural support from your ethics.

I've been watching Lower Decks again and while it doesn't forge much ground in big science fiction stories, it does tell huge stories about social fiction structures: hierarchies, ranks, friendships, motivation, education, leadership, mentorship… from the bottom up. It does something new.

Even this ep is full of character prequel-itis, glimpses into a future where Nyota becomes Uhura, where Jim becomes Kirk, where Pike becomes Admiral. Those moments are great(esp costume, acting, and stage) but it all serves character growth to a point written decades ago. It's nothing new.

If you don't tell a good story, regardless of how much we like the characters, it's just not gonna hit. Strange New Worlds has good characters but just hasn't told that many interesting stories. They also drop the ball on the characters front too, especially non legacy characters.

SNW suffers from prequel-itis: character growth to a known point becomes the main diegetic exploration, both in the story and outside it. A character growth based show is fine but it does mean that takes the focus from the story based elements, something sci-fi shows really excel at and need.
