Controversial opinion: we don't need so much farmland in Britain. 85% of our farmland is used for meat and dairy production. If we ate less meat and dairy, we could rewild large areas of farmland to capture more carbon, clean our air, improve our health and restore our ecosystems.

Also remember, the UK has 209,000 farms - so these changes will affect a grant total of... 0.0005% of them! (and of those affected, they still pay half the inheritance tax as the rest of us, they get 10 years to pay it and it can be avoided entirely if the farm is gifted to the children early)

As you listen to the media bluster in defence of the richest farm owners today remember: - there are only 345 farms valued £1m-£2.5m, 80 at £2.5m-£5m and 37 above £5m - the total untaxed amount is £2.65m after taking into account all reliefs So only 117 farms are actually affected by the changes.
