Please support local 26 as they fight to get fair pay better healthcare from an organization making tens of millions of dollars in profit. Workers deserve to live lives with dignity.

Not just pedestrians, even! Bike lanes increase safety for all road users. Bike lanes reduce the number of people going to the hospital, suffering life-altering injuries, or being killed. They save families from tragedies that can be felt for generations. govfacts.org/housing-infr...
Screenshot from govfacts.org

“Data from New York City shows that when protected bike lanes are installed, injury crashes for all road users – drivers included – typically drop by 40% to 50%.

A multi-year study that looked at 12 cities concluded that protected bike lanes reduced traffic deaths and serious injuries by nearly half for everyone on the road.”

When I’m feeling down, Somerville’s quirky and caring community is often there to pick me back up. What lovely people we have among us! (And fear not, the dove made it safely to the vet)

Proud to support Tufts workers of SEIU 32BJ. They have been fighting to get basic cost-of-living increases and reasonable healthcare costs from a university that has a huge endowment and annual surplus. They can and should make it possible for workers to live off their paychecks.

I hate this sign. A lot of people think bikes are *required* to use bike lanes. When signs like this go up during construction it confuses people about the law. Like so many, I've been yelled at, honked at, and aggressively passed for exiting a bike lane that is dangerous—obstructed or damaged.

Somerville spent some of its participatory budgeting dollars on a BurrowRx machine. We got to see a demo of it in action on Monday. It works by filling burrows with carbon monoxide, killing rats without the use of rodenticides, which is way better considering anticoagulants keep killing bald eagles.

These sorts of things annoy me. Eversource is doing a good thing _here_, however people struggled with bills last winter because Eversource price gouged its customers via “delivery” fees. They are not saviors, they contributed to food insecurity and will eagerly hike prices again when allowed.
COMING SOON: POP-UP FOOD PANTRY

The Somerville Y is hosting a Pop-Up Food Pantry this Saturday, November 22 from 10-12. This event is generously sponsored by Eversource.

We welcome anyone needing food assistance, no ID or requirements needed.

The pantry will be on a first come, first served basis and while supplies last.

The Immigrant Solidarity March and Vigil had a great showing. The Somerville community really knows how to show up. The stories told at the end were moving and hard to hear. Our country has lost so much to ICE goon squads led by soulless and hateful cowards. We need to protect the people around us.

The results of the Somerville preliminary were amazing. I had hoped to do well, but I ran the race I wanted to. I believe good people don‘t need tons of money to get started. I also didn’t want to create plastic yard sign waste. A little money and no signs. 12 people running—I came in fourth.
Thank you Somerville

Knocked on doors in ward 7 and found Somerville’s worst (sort of) working drinking fountain. Doesn’t drain and is full of bird poop. Somehow the longer I let it run, the hotter the water got. DPW might need an old priest and a young priest to fix this one.
311 report with the details: “The water fountain doesn't drain. It's got bird poop in it too now and for extra appeal the water is hot enough to brew tea and seems to only get more hot the longer you let it run.”
