My Bristol tips a bit rusty but the Here Gallery in Stokes Croft is good. There’s also there’s probably somewhere on the Christmas Steps and then you could check out Interlude Coffee!

I’ve had this Bellroy one with two diff iPhones bellroy.com/products/ven... and I like the ruggedness/bulk of it. Friends tease me about the lanyard thing but it is useful!

Yeah it caught me out for a while and then I had to go around dropping that in. Nice how well it works though. Happy new year!

Yeah you see it all over the place. The fix is to not use `height 100%` but to use the newish dvh (dynamic view height) which changes based on browser chrome so `height: 100dvh` Here’s it in action on a basket overlay, the overlay changes when the chrome pops in and out on scroll

Currently divesting myself from Vercel. I replatformed gif.land over the weekend. It was Next.js on Vercel and it’s now Astro and Cloudflare. I put a little note up on my blog about the transition jonheslop.com/posts/2025/d... It was my first time building anything with Astro, it’s really nice!

Nah it’s good. I want to know if Severance universe Dieter Rams is OK with his designs being used by a clearly unethical company and if he will come out as anti severing

Inspired by @ethanmarcotte.com, I’ve made a silly new website called gif.land — an online home for all my favourite GIFs. It’s glued together with Cloudflare R2, a @tur.so SQLite DB and next.js. I’ve blogged about it too: jonheslop.com/posts/2025/gif-land

I think this is the closest approximation bsky.app/profile/flas... (coming soon) there’s also this pixelfed.org I’ve not tried either. I do really like retro.app though! It’s not really like instagram but its a nice way to share photos with friends

I love twiglets but they are also totally mental. So dry, so twig like. Imagine offering them to someone who didn’t know the concept nor grown up with them.

*family’s. Further context. It was 1997 - I wasn’t allowed games. I just got to play encarta 95 and creative writer. It turned out, my dad was staying up at night addicted to Descent. I eventually found out. They thought I would get obsessed but I didn’t get it.

Whilst it quite exciting watching this get big very quickly, and sure Bluesky’s algo is kinder right now. It reminds me of this brilliant and elegant essay/thing Robin Sloan wrote/built about the inherent problem with runaway engagement and communication at scale www.robinsloan.com/special/plat...

Maybe bluesky should be where I post about birds. I saw these two this morning. Deffo not Curlews. Could be be sand pipers but I thought their beaks looked too skinny. So maybe godwits???
A picture from a bird hide of a view out across the river Teifi. It’s low tide and the muddy banks are out and there are two small birds wading in the shallows

Finally jumped ship, I somehow was in some twitter bubble where I wasn’t really seeing the grim stuff others seemed to (I never read replies and only looked on following) BUT Twitter mostly died for me when I couldn’t use Tweetbot anymore. Anyhow lets see how it goes over here 👋
