If the first round of the Brazilian Presidential Election is anything to go by, Brazilians are about look over the border at the 32% poverty rate delivered by Libertarianism in Argentina and gift themselves a big dose of it. Some people never learn.

This says everything that needs saying. What a mess this would be. And that is before we've thought about the noise, the pollution, the harm. There is a better choice, and it's not this.

Supremely bleak report on coal financing out this morning. Banks, including UK banks, are still pumping billions of pounds into coal projects that will almost certainly breach global climate goals. www.businessgreen.com/news/4536521...

Why has it taken U.K MPs until now to start raising the alarm about the existential risks of artificial intelligence? The threat was abundantly clear to anybody who considered the logical implications of AI almost a decade ago. These people aren't leaders, they're followers.

If you had nothing to say about football fans assaulting young environmentalists in the street. Or nothing to say about drivers running over & beating up Just Stop Oil activists. Then keep quiet about Reform bullies savagely attacking young women protestors. This is on you, too.

More than three years before ChatGPT launched, I was posting about the dangers of automation. Six years later - while 'the Godfather of AI' Sir Geoffrey Hinton warns AI will deliver mass unemployment and existential risk - the gov't is still ploughing ahead with this madness.

Global warming adaptation will increasingly be about addressing the psychological effects of a rapidly changing climate and its impact on every aspect of life. Great to see Midlothian Council thinking deeply about how to improve its services by integrating trauma awareness into its work.

If you genuinely believe that the 4% of every educational cohort who are privately-educated go on to dominate the upper echelons of every profession because of the inadequacies of the state education system, then you're deluded beyond all help.

Call me old fashioned, but it should matter enormously to Labour members, voters, and the wider public that the Parliamentary Labour Party harbours and promotes MPs who believes it's absolutely fine to game the system for their kids at the expense of ours. www.msn.com/en-gb/news/o...

We're being dragged into a future we didn't ask for and don't want, and the response of the Westminster political class is a mixture of cowardice, indifference, and outright support for the Silicon Valley technofascists who want to steal our jobs and destroy our democracies.

Giambattista Vico (1668-1744) believed shame, curiosity, and the need to work built civilisation. In my lifetime, shame has ceased to be a constraint; educational curiosity has collapsed with the rise of AI; and corruption has become the number one method for obtaining power and wealth.

The same street in Levenshulme, Manchester, one hundred years apart. The private motor vehicle is an invasive species, which gradually crowds out and suffocates the rich social life of our cities. When cars don’t dominate the streets, life flourishes.

For the 5th consecutive year child casualties have flat-lined at around 13,000 road casualties of age 16 and under. In what other area of life would the death or injury of 13,000 children be "acceptable"? The government has a Road Safety Strategy that aims to reduce child KSIs by 70%.

The next generation of iron-air batteries can do *at least* 6,000 cycles - equivalent to more than 16 years of daily operation - with zero storage capacity loss. This will destroy the fossil fuel industry. That’s why the campaign to ‘kill net zero’ has dramatically ramped up.

With the U.K’s electricity balancing costs (curtailment of renewables & use of gas to cover gaps) costing £1 billion in 2025, iron-air batteries could drastically reduce the price of transforming the energy system, boost energy security, reduce emissions, and generate jobs.

What is “moronic” and “terrible” about the Labour Party representing the interests and living standards of human labour? What is progressive about driverless taxis allowing tech companies to accrue money that currently feeds taxi drivers’ families?
