Nod nod nod. As a software developer, it's the assets that I find hardest. Yes, I can code it to play all these images in sequence to make an animation. No I can't make a cute little guy swing a trombone around his head while shreiking.

In New Zealand its increasingly common for job interviews to take place in coffee shops, in which case all parties are holding iced coffees. The discourse here is around whether wearing jandals (aka flip flops) to an interview is fine.

I remember Ursula posting about waking up and staggering into her kitchen in search of coffee only to find Shepherd writing a lengthy critique of the anatomy and physics of her sex scenes.

Night. The House of Chimes - a tower which you might immediately think of as Big Ben - is adrift in the River Thames. It still seems to be keeping time. In the background, a large, alien building looms over the city of London.

I remember an article by a Guardian writer who said that her editor told her that her career would go nowhere unless her "stories" (and I hate that news articles get called stories) embraces that Manichean X vs Y structure.

My English teacher taught Shakespeare and Browning and Dracula and dirty limericks with equal flair and fervour. For a whole year homework was those "make as many words as you can from these nine letters" puzzles. It got quite competitive. There were jelly babies for high scores.

While a lot of IT people are autistic, I do wonder if sometimes people think we are autistic because the demands of the job re precision and process and pedantry train certain autistim-like behaviours into us. *nb personally not diagnosed as autistic, but it runs in the family.

I actually cringe when I hear the word 'canon' being bandied around for works of fiction. Oh, this made-up thing is deemed 'more real' than this other made up thing? Especially in corporate-controlled stories where the 'reality' is that's what the producer / marketing people/ focus group decided.

I was thinking of even larger things, like "who destroyed Atlantis". I think, in a long running series, particularly one with many, many writers, it becomes to some degree or other inevitable.
