I have an Anime confession to make. I have never watched Neon Genesis Evangelion... I have watched so much anime - from DanDaDan to Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. From the GOATs to the trash. I just keep waiting to be in the PERFECT mood and keep getting cold feet.

Author's note: I am super biased. I love anime, Tolkien, and grew up with Studio Ghibli.

000

Baker @jonbaker.bsky.social · 27/03/2025

And without that context, the end product is either worth less or just completely worthless. It's like drinking fine wine out of an old soda can. Or like eating a Michelin-star meal off of paper plates.

100

Baker @jonbaker.bsky.social · 27/03/2025

Creations like this lack that context. And it feels like Hannibal Lecter wearing a mask made out of human skin.

100

Baker @jonbaker.bsky.social · 27/03/2025

So, while you might be able to emulate a story like this with AI, consider the context. How much more (or less) is it worth to you and the people enjoying or even (wait for it) PAYING for that art.

100

Baker @jonbaker.bsky.social · 27/03/2025

The Fellowship of the Ring is a story about war, written by a human who was living through WWII. What he wrote, and how he wrote it, changes when you consider that context. It becomes a part of the art and makes it worth more.

100

Baker @jonbaker.bsky.social · 27/03/2025

@zachsilberberg.bsky.social Yeah, that post RILED me up. All stories, whether they are written by humans or an AI, are enhanced by their context. And we know that human beings place a value on context. Also why you wouldn't pay the same for a Michelin-star meal if it was served on a paper plate.
