The political climate is heavy. It is so heavy to hold it all. I know. Remember that you personally don't need to be doing it all. You also need to know that you are not the only person who wants a better future. But get in the right action to make very small steps that add up over time.

We need to know our limits with the information we take in and engage with. Who is our tribe? Do you have one? No? Get one. What do you value? What do they value? Does it match? Yes? Then that's your tribe. Unplug. Rest is resistance. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. We need you around longer than this.

We need to tell our brain that we CANNOT tackle anything and everything all at once. Stop. We need to focus on the issues that matter most to us and take very small steps. We need to know and be aware of what's happening. But we need to control our input. Constant consumption feeds overwhelm.

Let me tell you something. The truth of the matter is that they have us believing that we are carrying MORE than what we are capable of handling. This is not a sign of defeat or giving up -- this is a reminder to pause, step back, regroup, and refocus.

Insensitive people will keep on being insensitive with their toxic positivity and detached undertones of faux optimism. Sometimes, it makes you feel like you want to just disengage and stop dealing with it all together.

Right now, these oppressive external forces want us to feel hopeless, overwhelmed, stressed out, and exhausted. The 24/7 news cycle, drama, divisive rhetoric, or the weight of advocating for systemic change. It feels like pressure, a pressing down on our nervous systems. Too freaking much.

It would be literally impossible for human beings to replace therapy in their greatest attempts to do so.

Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
Human therapy requires creativity, intuition, resonance, and presence, which are qualities that AI can mimic but can not replicate. AI is a great supplement and therapy assistant, but it cannot offer empathy, judgment, insight, and adaptability to replace human therapists.

Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
AI therapists cannot genuinely relate or contribute to human experiences in the same way that a human therapist. AI does not know how to explore meaning and the complexity of the human condition.
160
Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
An AI therapist can misinterpret a human being, which can elicit an erroneous response, potentially harming vulnerable people. Human therapists are skilled, trained, and equipped to mitigate risk.
110
Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
It is not possible for AI to build rapport and trust with a human being. It requires shared vulnerability and interpersonal connection. An AI therapist can not provide that to a human being.
130
Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
AI Therapists lack the adaptability required to handle extremely complex, unique cases. Human therapists are the only human beings who can offer a flexible, creative response to the case.
110
Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
Human therapists offer confidentiality under strict guidelines that an AI therapist will never be able to provide to anyone, due to data breaches.
120
Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
AI Therapists will never understand how nuanced emotion, cultural context, and non-verbal communication like tone and body language fits together. Only human therapists can understand and interpret the subtleties.
100
Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 22/01/2025
AI therapists can NEVER replace human therapists. This is a biased post. AI Therapists cannot replicate the depths of human empathy and connection. People will always need genuine understanding, not a programmed response.

To continue counteracting the negative effects of media: We can learn how to challenge, confront, question, and critically evaluate media content. We can engage more with offline activities that ground our lived experiences in reality.

To counteract the effects that media has had on us, there are things that we can control. We can limit our media exposure, especially with harmful, toxic content. We can diversify our sources by seeking out varied perspectives to avoid bias. We can be intentional about the content we consume.

Media has also impacted our neurochemistry in our bodies. The consumption of media can trigger dopamine releases through the likes, shares, or engaging in toxic, unhealthy narratives. With time, it has shaped our mood regulation, creating dependencies on media for emotional highs or escapes.

Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
We are constantly bombarded with information, which has overloaded and overwhelmed cognitive processes. The overburdening makes it challenging to evaluate content. It can create mental fog, confusion, stress, and fatigue, which can prolong the process of altering one's perception of reality.

Media can reinforce one's pre-existing beliefs via the algorithm-driven echo chambers. It skews, alters, and distorts one's perceptions of what is true or normal. Echo chambers distort reality by presenting a biased view in alignment with the preferences of that particular user.

Exposing oneself daily to emotionally charged media, such as distressing news or even uplifting stories, can impact mood. Doomscrolling is the continuous, repeated exposure to negative news, which leads to anxiety, hopelessness, and despair. Inspiring content boosts hope and motivation.

Historically, these social media platforms encourage its users to compare one's life against other users. Comparison leads to low self-esteem, inadequacy, insecurity, and envy. Seeing others struggle may create empathy and gratitude, while at the same time, induce guilt and obligation.

Media presents curated and selective versions of reality. Pushing exaggerated, sensational, dramatic stories over mundane, common, everyday experiences leads to distorted perceptions. It creates the belief that the world is much more unsafe, dangerous, and/or glamorous than it actually is.

I have worked with people who told me they worked with therapists who spoke to "them" as if they were not in the room. Focused on "them" in a detached, clinical, analytical way. Left "them" feeling unseen, unheard, and dehumanized. Name this objectification. #therapistsky #blacktherapistsky

I had to learn early on in my own journey that boundaries weren't about disrespecting our elders, parents, or family. It was about creating a healthier dynamic. I had to stop enabling the addiction. I had to break the cycle of silence and denial across generations. #blacktherapistsky #therapistsky

"What happens in this house stays in this house," was the mantra in my household. Out of fear, love, loyalty, and the culture, I kept my mother's alcoholism a secret for years. Made many excuses for her behavior, doing everything possible to shield her from pain. #blacktherapistsky #tnerapistsky

Boundaries without consequences are simply suggestions. If anyone consistently violates or crosses the line, enforce clear consequences: reduce access, limit interaction, or withdraw your energy. This is NOT punishment. This IS an act of self-respect. Your peace is non-negotiable. #therapistsky

Culturally, many of us have been taught that loyalty to our family of origin means that we must endure pain. This is false. Loyalty means modeling a better way to live. Protecting your peace shows what it means to LIVE authentically. It is the gift that keeps on giving. #therapistsky

Normalize choosing peace over tradition this holiday season. Protecting your psychic energy means setting boundaries, even when it is hard to do. For anyone else opting out of toxic family gatherings this season -- know that you are not alone. Prioritize yourself. #therapistsky

Facing the shadow will take courage, compassion, and insight. Name the shadows without judgment. Release the grip of shame through self- and eventual group forgiveness. Transmute energy of the shadow into constructive action for justice. Dissolve the illusion of separation once and for all.

The shadow of global dominance is rooted in the fear of vulnerability. The control they seek over others is an illusion. True power comes from a position of surrendering to the flow of life. Addressing the collective shadow is not just a societal task -- it is a sacred work. Facing the shadow.

Polarization between groups thrive when fear replaces empathy. Fear continues to blind us from our interconnectedness despite our differences, while empathy sought to bridge the divide. The reluctance to face and confront this country's darkest history reflects this deeper fear of shame and guilt.

The collective shadow of America holds all of the pain, injustice, and unfinished business that have shaped its history and present. The shadow of racism, slavery, Indigenous displacement, and segregation lingers because we have failed to acknowledge and validate their harmful effects.

Gaslighting impacts how we experience and process reality, creating a disconnect between our instincts and what we are told to believe, creating confusion, tension, and trauma in the body. Our bodies hold the truth. Trust it, nurture it, and let it guide you back home. #therapistsky

My pain and earlier injuries in past lifetimes became a bridge. It became a new way to connect with others on the planet. It became a way to offer something new that I struggled to find. Our wounds do not define us. They refine us. They guide us. Home can be created. This is evidence of healing.

My journey of Chiron demanded that I face and confront this pain, not to block, minimize, or erase it from my brain computer. The lesson has been to understand, clarify, and integrate. I see the pain because I lived it myself. I know the power of helping someone rebuild their own sense of home.

I'm learning that "home" isn't just a place, it's an experience that can be created as much as it has been destroyed. It's the moments of solitude where I am reminded that I am going to be okay. This wounding helped me become more attuned to those who have felt displaced or unworthy of belonging.

Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 15/11/2024
It was the absence of something unshakeable -- a place to just enjoy, relax, rest, exhale, and just be in your own body and mind. That was the absence that started the path of seeking and searching for ways to ground myself, a wanderer with no real place to rest.

Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 15/11/2024
There were parts of me that yearned for craved security, stability, and having a solid foundational place, yet my lived experiences have been the opposite. There were moments where "home" never felt safe. It wasn't only about the lack of love. It was an absence of something else -- a place to be.

Having Chiron conjunct my Imum Coeli in Taurus in my birth chart validated this injury, which is both tender and transformative. My sense of home and belonging was uprooted early on in my journey, leaving me with a heartache to seek stability. I lived in many houses without a place to call home.

Jon @jonathoncarrington.bsky.social · 15/11/2024
The term "domicide" can be interpreted as a metaphor to describe the disintegration, destruction, and/or displacement of a sense of place we would call "home". Home, meaning the place that offers us a sense of stability, security, structure, belonging, peace, and identity. It shakes us.

Unresolved anger is a sign of violated boundaries. It can result in chronic tension, stored trauma, and emotional numbness in the body. It is unexpressed grief without a destination. This energy needs a constructive way to release to set the body and mind free. #therapistsky
