I got an amazing shoutout from my friend in his newsletter and just wanted to share it here. He described my writing style better than I could, honestly #writingcommunity #awesomefriends

An email with the following text:

This creator shoutout goes to an amazing friend I've known for over 20 years.

Jonathan Pierson - Fantasy Writer

Jonathan writes books like Studio Ghibli makes movies. In saying that, I don't just mean the stories he creates are great, but also that his writing style is heavily influenced by Japanese storytelling.
There isn't always a clear cut villain, and there's something that feels different about the progression of the story. In a way, characters are freed from always needing to be the hero and are instead allowed to live and breathe within their world.
Jonathan consistently posts first-draft chapters on his Patreon which you can find by clicking this link, or you can learn more about his books by visiting his website. I'm sure he would be thrilled to have your support!
That's all for this shoutout. Keep your dream life in sight!

Complete at 116,000 words, THE FORGOTTEN AFFINITY is a new adult, fast-paced fantasy happily described as light academia. This book will appeal to fans of A DEADLY EDUCATION by Naomi Novik for the atmosphere of new friends in a school setting while the lighthearted mystery of magic and the unknown will draw in fans of EMILY WILDE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FAIRIES by Heather Fawcett.

Twenty-two-year-old Aiden Dramor escapes a toxic life when he enrolls at the best university for conjurers in the world. A chance at a new life is at his fingertips, though he doesn't actually have the ability to conjure magic-yet. A legendary conjurer takes Aiden under his wing, while young love blooms with a classmate named Sophie. Things are finally looking up.

But then Aiden's childhood bully Marcus also enrolls, immediately feeding Aiden's anxieties, just as news arrives that the annual school battle event-where the twelve best students compete for a reward granted by the emperor-will allow first-years to participate for the first time ever.
Sophie's ambitious dream of winning the event leads her to break things off with Aiden to remove him as a distraction, and Aiden's new life quickly crumbles as he fixates on being selected in order to stay by her side. He halts his training under his mentor who doesn't hold sway in the selection process, unintentionally takes his frustration out on his friends, and chooses to partner with one of the most promising first-years, Marcus— despite the daily physical and mental pain the partnership causes.

After a near-death experience fighting Marcus, Aiden is given a reality check and must accept that his previous suffering does not entitle him to his envisioned, perfect life. If he can't, his continued disregard for his own safety could ultimately cost him his life entirely.

Working on a new book (not sequel) while I sit in the trenches and the main character’s a musician. Sooo there’s a song I wrote for the plot of the book and I got some help with the chords for it!! I love it so I thought I’d share verse one. #amquerying #music #song #worksong

As I float through the anxiety of waiting to hear back about queries, I’ve started my next book! THE SOUND OF A SOUL #writingcommunity

Part One
Chapter 1

Through a deep black and gold
If you're stalwart and bold
You can visit the home of a God
When you follow your soul
With a singular goal
You'll be treading a trail never trod

So get back on your feet
Dust yourself off real neat
And present the best you that you know
All it takes is a choice
Followed up by your voice
And the action to get up and go!

Cyg sang to himself in the dark, claustrophobic alcove of the cavern in an effort to calm himself down before he gave up on his dream.

Intense past few days but I finally finished my search and destroy list from @ginad129.bsky.social’s patreon (free tier) and now I just need to do a final read through to fix any sentences and word choices that stand out. I’m so close to querying!!!!!!!

A sticky note with crossed out text that reads various words and phrases that should be mostly removed from a manuscript to polish it up.

Decided not to trim my beard until I finish draft 4 (final draft before querying) Started mid November and it’s getting out of hand haha. I need this line edit over with 😅
