Not only has everything gotten more expensive, but the quality has (intentionally) dropped. The sooner it breaks, the sooner you get a new one. My dad still has a working pair of headphones he bought half a century ago. I’ve yet to find a set of bluetooth earbuds that lasts more than a year.

Once you’ve centered your economic system around profit, you can count on companies doing the most awful things they can get away with. It’s not a coincidence AT ALL that a company that cuts corners on safety is also using forced labor. Both are good decisions in a purely profit-driven sense.
