Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 18/09/2026They will always blame “the other” for every problem. They already blame tiny powerless fractions of our society for all kinds of things - Muslims, Trans people, immigrants, poor people… it doesn’t matter what is true, or even what makes sense. That is why we must never stop the fight. 010
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Surely there are angry conversations happening today about this. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone we never hear about gets demoted or fired. 110
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I’d be interested to see the distribution of that cash to individual players. I imagine it’s a pretty steep curve, with a small number of stars gobbling up most of it. As is the case for everything in our capitalist system. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 02/09/2026They could make them quieter, but they need to be forced to do so, because that costs more money. This is why government regulation is so vital. 2533
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Here comes another conman - telling lies that make people feel good. 010
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 28/08/2026We are only as smart as the information we receive as input. Or, rather, if we only receive poor inputs, the system will not be aware of its failure. An engineer should understand this. 140
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 27/08/2026What concerns me isn’t how stupid she is, it’s how stupid her voters are. They hear this, and just nod along… completely oblivious to reasoning. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Best we can hope is that a couple percent will change how they vote. So many people have their political identity tied to their personal identity. So they’ll remain Republican even if they hate republicans. 001
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 18/08/2026This is not his last shot. He’ll sue her for… something. And drag that out, then do it again… There is no last shot. Trump plays our legal system like the joke it is. We need serious reform like yesterday. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Climate denialism is a real problem in the US, and frankly around the world. The question is: how do we fix this? I don’t think aggressive accusations against the people we need to convince are helpful. It just makes them more obstinate. 100
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Testing their resolve? I mean what are supposed to do? It’s not like there is a choice. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 11/08/2026They don’t make this money. They TAKE this money. 010
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 10/08/2026This dahlia variety is called Hart’s Bonnie. Note the thin red highlights on every petal - neat! #dahlia #flower 060
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 06/08/2026They’re fundamentally rotten ignorant people. They’ve been conditioned to value beliefs over facts. They don’t believe anything they don’t understand. To top it off, they think Democrats are guilty of everything I just said. It’s maddening. 020
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 04/08/2026So if I do 10 corrupt things, then walk back 1 of them, that’s the republican benchmark for an Attorney General nomination? Got it. Will also be fascinating to hear the Republicans whine about things like “not paying nanny taxes” next time a Democratic AG is nominated. 001
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 04/08/2026He’s horrible at everything. The only thing he excels at is being a conman. 020
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 03/08/2026“We”, not “they” We the people have the power to set these priorities, but we have to be engaged. We have to assert that power. 010
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 03/08/2026This is a Water Scorpion, plying the waters of Parish Lake Oregon yesterday. Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Trump said something that people want to hear, regardless if there is any truth to it. This is what conmen do. It’s what Trump has done his entire life: make promises, screw up, blame others, and take the money. When will everyone learn? 1130

Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 30/07/2026It’s almost impossible for Iran to lose this. They’re not going to “leave”. The only way they lose is via regime change, and we are a long way from that point - basically no effort has been made to make that happen (and I’m not saying it should). This was a war born of short sighted stupidity. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Unless they sold right away… it was up quite a bit on hype initially. Seems a lot of people had the same idea: buy as early as possible, then sell shortly thereafter. The long-term investors were the dupes. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Btw, this is a photo of the bird’s back, not its breast. Can be confusing when you first see it! 010
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Admit we lost. Give Iran a decent deal. Include a surcharge on all shipping traffic in the gulf to be split among all countries there to help pay for the damage. Say we’ll bomb them again if they try to dig up the nuclear material. Just a few thoughts… there simply is no good option. 000

Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 22/07/2026The issue is that people want to see a fighter, not a tactician. That’s the mood of the electorate. They want him to put more pressure on. They want him to demand answers. Issuing lukewarm statements like “gee I dunno what’s going on” is weakness, even if it’s tactically smart. 500
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 22/07/2026He may well be dead. That’s the issue - nobody knows. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Trump is a con man. That’s all he’s ever been his entire life. Tell people what they want to hear, screw up, take the money, and blame everyone else. It’s this same pattern with everything he does. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Thanks for your excellent reporting on this - it is so vital. I read the article, and would like to know - what exactly are they pumping into the ground? Is there any monitoring for this in the drinking water? How long would it take to seep a quarter mile? Have the agencies rejected any permits? 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Not only that, cutting the liner with a razor would do absolutely nothing to it. Go cut any painted/lined surface with a razor - does that make it peel off? No, it does not. The media needs to repeat this fact over and over. 030
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 15/07/2026When American football started, there were no helmets, and players regularly died from head injuries. It was a huge deal most people have forgotten about. Helmets have surely helped reduce this. The problem is more fundamental though, there isn’t any truly safe way to play the game. 1110
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 14/07/2026If Trump makes a post and nobody reads it, did it actually happen? 1131
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 10/07/2026If you ask them, they’ll say “he’s a great businessman, look at how rich he’s getting” Without any understanding that he’s a conman, getting rich by crypto scams, and doesn’t give one bit of crap about ranchers. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Exactly. How much you want to bet the case is dropped just before that happens? 0410
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Cont… But assuming someone will step up with legal funding to go after these bozos, bring it on. I’d love to get to the bottom of this fiasco in a court of law, with the people involved testifying under oath. Any bets it won’t get to that point? 150
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026This should all be part of this “trial”. If this guy wants to prove his innocence, he needs experts to testify, the company who installed the liner to testify, witnesses who were there at various times to testify as to what was happening, put together a timeline, etc… all this costs money. Cont. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Trump will keep appealing regardless. If that gets truly exhausted, he will sue. When those get thrown out, he will keep doing it. There are no consequences for him doing this. That is the problem. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Seriously… who has the authority to appoint a new senator? If it’s the governor, he should appoint a democrat. It’s what Mitch would do if roles were reversed. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Isn’t that what any loyal spouse would do when their loved one is in the ICU? Oh you’re on death’s door honey? Ok, I’m heading to the other side of the planet. Take care! 020

Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 06/07/2026I would argue that the only sustainable democracy is a social democracy. Otherwise, the balance of power gradually moves away from people and toward money, where those with the most money have the most influence on the direction of the society. That is exactly what is plaguing the US right now. 240
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 06/07/2026That's... exactly the problem. It's turned into a business. Businesses need profits. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 06/07/2026The question is how Norway can afford its standard of living, not how white they are. Norway produces 9x oil-per-person vs. US. Still, we have a lot of natural wealth in the US in addition to oil. If more of that wealth was invested in our society, we'd have a higher baseline standard of living. 000
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 05/07/2026That’s not the point - we made a choice in the US to give away our natural resources to a few wealthy people. Norway did not. Even if our oil wealth is a smaller percentage of our total GDP than in Norway, the people here get little benefit from it. 281
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 05/07/2026It could be the same in the US (we have more oil than Norway), but we decided to give all that wealth away to a few people. The wealth of our natural resources should be used to invest in our future, not hoarded by a few gluttons. 150
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 05/07/2026We have more oil in the US than Norway. But in the US, the wealth generated by the oil enriches a few people who are already very rich. In Norway, it enriches the country. 1123
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Add it to the long list of things most people will ignore because it’s inconvenient to them. 120
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 02/07/2026And we could have a stronger military at half the price. We are wasting so much money on million dollar missiles. We should be investing in drones costing a fraction of that. The war in Ukraine shows the future. We just spent billions to lose to Iran - our $$$ accomplished jack shit. 100
Jonathan Ley @jonathanley.bsky.social · 02/07/2026This is not only horrific, it’s just plain stupid. Do the Russians think that by blowing up apartment buildings, they’ll convince the Ukrainians to surrender? Of course that won’t happen. Such attacks stiffen the Ukrainian resolve to fight. They understand the choice is “fight or die”. 040
