Thank you, Dolly Parton. I still think about her role in 9 to 5 with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, and that unforgettable theme song. She inspired me, and she inspired a whole generation of women, something I write about in my book, When America Roared. Rest easy, Dolly. You'll be missed.

In the 1980s, cable TV couldn't expand into many cities. The FCC and Mark Fowler rolled back rules that restricted cable's growth. Cable could be installed everywhere. Thank Fowler for the success of MTV, CNN and Nickelodeon--and the rise of Fox News. Find out more in WHEN AMERICA ROARED
