They've gone ahead and done it: they've "woked" Doctor Who! He's a blue-haired feminist!! I can't believe they did this to my favourite conservative character. I will not be watching Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew. (the above was sarcasm)

And while ivermectin does have a wide margin for safety, it’s not a 100% safe drug to use, and many of the protocols shared on X and Telegram call for doses much higher than what is typically use to fight off parasitic infections.

We shouldn’t underestimate the raw power of Joe Rogan’s podcast to influence people’s medical decisions. His guest, Mel Gibson, giddily talked about how ivermectin had cured the cancer of three of his friends, and Google searches shot up dramatically.

My article this week will be a beefy one. How the hell did an anti-parasitic drug once wrongly positioned as our COVID saviour become the chemotherapy of the anti-woke? Luckily, I'm friends with a student who's doing a Ph.D. on ivermectin's anti-tumour potential. The full story on Friday!

What I had "fun" painstakingly measuring was the fake progress bar embedded in the video. They make it look as if the video is halfway done, when in fact it's only been 5 minutes... out of 60. This is crass manipulation.

This UATX promotional email reads like those WB/CW TV shows that portrayed college as going out on the lake in a rowboat and asking questions like, “What is love?” until the smart kid mentions Aristotle and the professor smiles and nods.
Dear Friend,

Right now, college freshmen across the country are unpacking dorm rooms, scrolling through campus maps on their phones, and figuring out which dining hall has the best options.

Our freshmen are doing something different.

This month, our newest class begins orientation by putting their phones away for days. Instead of staring at screens, they will hike the Barton Creek Greenbelt, swim at Barton Springs, and discuss the Iliad in daily seminars. They will learn to debate with rigor and generosity. They will be challenged physically, intellectually, and personally before their first day of class even begins.

This is not a summer camp. It is a deliberate introduction to what we expect of them: show up fully, engage seriously, and rise to the occasion.

And every year, they do.

Just stumbled upon this weird-ass paper.
Abstract

The width of a human hair sourced from a female elementary school student was measured by light diffraction using red and blue laser pointers. The two laser sources both provided consistent estimates of the hair diameter of approximately 50 μm. The overall experiment and writing process provided a temporary respite from COVID-19 shelter-in-place requirements and deteriorating spring weather that precluded outdoor activities.

But a recent study shows a promising way of better communicating the issue: binary data visualization instead of continuous distributions. Instead of showing rises in temp over time, experiments seem to show that plotting “the lake froze” vs “the lake didn’t freeze” that year opens people’s eyes.

Something I read and which really resonated with me was Daniel Pauly’s 1995 essay on how fish populations can decline without fishers really noticing. It’s called “shifting baselines syndrome.”
There is a distressing essay from 1995 that illustrates this using fish. The number and diversity of fish in a body of water can collapse over a long enough period of time without fishers noticing. It’s not that they don’t have eyes; it’s that when they retire, the number of fish is down from when they started, but the next generation of fishers doesn’t know. To them, this lower number is normal. They have never experienced what the lake looked like fifty years earlier.

The essay’s writer, Daniel Pauly, called it “shifting baselines syndrome.” The first time you enter an ecosystem sets the baseline for you as to what is normal; if change is slow enough, it won’t seem drastic. For Vox, David Roberts summarized it this way: “No generation experiences the totality of the loss.” The kind of major air pollution we are experiencing in summer due to forests burning is new to us; to babies born now, it will be expected. Little by little, our species gets accustomed to a worsening situation without ever fully perceiving the change. We are, in effect, boiling frogs.

Gotta love that we now have to maneuver, obstacle-course-like, around AI-written websites when sifting through search results. I stumbled upon this write-up on when to give your AC unit a break. LOL.
How Many Hours Should Ac Run Per Day

There’s no definitive answer to this question since it can vary depending on the climate, the size of your home, and other factors. However, most experts agree that AC units should run for at least two hours per day in order to be effective. If your unit is running for less than that, it might not be cooling your home properly.

Additionally, you’ll want to make sure that your AC unit is sized correctly for your home. If it’s too small, it will have to work harder and run longer in order to cool your space effectively.

Running Ac Only at Night

There are many reasons to love running at night. The cooler temperatures make for more comfortable running, and the darkness can provide a feeling of solitude and peace. But there are also some important considerations to keep in mind when running in the dark.

Here are a few tips for staying safe and comfortable on your night runs. Make yourself visible. Wear reflective gear or clothing with bright colors so that drivers and others can see you.

Faception can analyze faces from video streams (recorded and live), cameras, or
online/offline databases, encode the faces in proprietary image descriptors and match
an individual with various personality traits and types with a high level of accuracy.
We develop proprietary classifiers, each describing a certain personality type or trait
such as an Extrovert, a person with High IQ, Professional Poker Player or a Terrorist.
Ultimately, we can score facial images on a set of classifiers and provide our clients
with a better understanding of their customers, the people in front of them or in front
