I just noticed that last week when passing through! No idea, but I was standing near row AA.

Dreamt last night that there was a concert series run by an eccentric guy who'd ask musicians what rep they always have more or less ready to go and then book them to play that two weeks before the concert.

Concert announcement! NYC people, please save December 13 for this program of my music performed by a bunch of wonderful musicians who don't appear to be on Bluesky. Link in bio for tickets and program info!

Promotional image; top half is text "Immeasurable Arts presents ESCAPADES, Music of Jonathan Howard Katz, December 13, 8pm, Tenri Cultural Institute, 43A W 13th St, NYC 10011"; bottom half is a collage of nine headshots of the performers for the concert.

NYFA. There's a strong NYC focus, but there's a decent number of listings from elsewhere.

Adobe keeps offering AI summaries of my own scores. I never take them because, well, obviously, but I'm honestly curious how it thinks (or rather "thinks") it could create a prose summary of a piece of music.

"Our other album covers have been really down to earth, so for this one we'd like something more heady."

That's what I'd assume, yes. It's such a weird concept to begin with, though, and only works because they shared a similar degree of baldness.

Their pre-Photoshop graphics department was really working overtime.

Okay, now I understand why the collective noun for cicadas is "a tired cello section."

A dark image of the head of a cicada, with the headline "In An Unexpected Turn Of Events, Some Cicadas Just Performed Pachelbel's Canon In D" and a footer indicating this is an image of a link to an IFLScience article.

You used to be able to play his piano at Montfort-l'Amaury, but apparently they don't let you anymore. But that's probably about as close as you can get now . . .

Hang in there. I've heard it's awful, but it does pass.

I see this all the time, and the quote is usually attributed generically to Shakespeare. The farewell speech to Laertes, in full, was carved in stone inside one of my undergrad university's dorm cafeterias.

I have something based on Mozart's starling, as he dictated its song, with some invented birdsong and incorporated Mozart quotes alongside it. A little hard to describe . . .

They started the performance in 1977, and now they're almost to the end of act II.

I took this picture of my neighbor's cat last night while he was roaming the hallway unattended, a minute before he followed me INTO my apartment and I had to (gently) chase him around till he let me get close enough to scoop him up and deposit him back in the hallway.

A gray-brown cat with green eyes, slightly out of focus, on a tiled floor, looking up at the camera.

If you see this, post a fictional artist/band you would love to see live (these two tied)

A fake Decca record cover with the faces of the Rolling Stones placed on the members of a string quartet, posing together with their instruments.

A detail from what appears to be a medieval painting. Impossible to describe properly, but in the center is a centaur whose human half wears a green hat and plays the lute. His horse half has another full face on the rear end and blows a natural trumpet, which protrudes from his, umm, mouth. Another grotesque figure in the background appears to be a monkey playing a bagpipe while sitting on either a tree stump or a large drum.

With a seventh (and ninth still in the pedal)! The first one is also really lovely to play. We'll surely do the full set soon.

I don't know of an article, but I think the gist is that analysis tools are useless unless they're in service of questions that will illuminate something about the piece(s) at hand, and these questions tend to change from composer to composer and piece to piece. (My off-the-top-of-head response!)

"Most proud of" is a tall order, since I'm proud of different works for different reasons. But I quite like the lyricism of this piece from 2021. Thanks for asking! youtu.be/Zy7wpr3cSU4?...
