I went and looked up what kept it off the top first time.
Noel Gallagher dressed in a black t-shirt, sitting on a settee, stroking his chin and declaring of Robson & Jerome’s I Believe keeping him off No 1 that ‘it’s too funny’.

First event I read as it happened in the US comics, thanks to discovering the comics shop in town. Felt like being able to read a myth as it formed. And in many ways I’ve always been looking for another cover which goes as hard as one of my first:
The X-Man Wolverine, his costume torn to shreds and his adamantium claws out, faces just to the left of the reader, ready to fight an unseen opponent Behind him, against a black background, are huge streaks of blood.

A caption promised WOLVERINE vs. SABRETOOTH - - ROUND 1!

No cover has ever gone harder than this.

Squaredle knows the score.
A screenshot of the Squaredle word game. A five by four grid of letters with a score above it indicating the player has found 31 out of 76 words.

Above the grid is the outline of a red circle with a diagonal bar across it next to the word macra, indicating that there are no such thing as Macra.

While I’m aware that writing an headlines and articles for a website about a game is a right bastard, this description of Salah’s penalty seems to have been written by someone with a lack of basic football knowledge. (It’s in the match article too).
Mo Salah raises his arms in the air in a triumphant pose with the headline ‘Salah’s Panenka helps Egypt edge Australia in shootout.’ That headline is written by a numpty who has no clue about what a Panenka actually is and thereby casts doubt on their football knowledge .

I mean, we could be here all day but let’s go with The Secret Lives of Monsters. Eddie isn’t a great reader, but he had his nose in this all the time after it came out.
The cover of Doctor Who: The Secret Life of Monsters by Justin Richards. On a textured red background Peter Capaldi reaches out towards the reader, framed in a Gallifreyan hieroglyph. In the corners, clockwise from top left: a Cyberman, an Ice WarriorX a Weeping Angel and a Dalek.

People trying to look like this. Yeah, I know.
A cartoon of a man who’s taken ballsmaxxing to the extreme: he’s carrying them in front of him in a wheelbarrow, which has a squeaky wheel.

Yes! It’s Viz cartoon hero Buster Gonsd and his unfeasibly large testicles.

Top marks to Oxfam in York for their marketing. (alt text of notice included)
Four Doctor Who books and three magazines, one of which has the Rani on its cover and the other Susan.

In the middle of these is a notice which reads:

Doctor Who

Apparently the Earth is due to end on Saturday the 24th of May.*

Will the Doctor save the day? (and the planet??)

Will he get Belinda home?

And more importantly does anyone remember the Rani???

Lots more Doctor Who books and magazines inside **

* if you are reading this after the 24th it probably didn’t happen.

** Unless we’ve sold some of them, in which case… a few more Doctor Who books and magazines inside.

Planning on sitting out in the back garden after work with a book, and seeing as this popped through the door today, @tobyhadoke.bsky.social’s first Quatermass magnum opus is an easy choice to relax with. Top work from all at @tenacrefilms.bsky.social in making this a thing of ravishing beauty.
The cover for the hardback version of Toby Hadoke’s book about the making of The Quatermass Experiment. An old 1950s tv, a box with a screen and two knobs at the bottom shows the title card of the series while behind it the tentacled Lovecraftian horror that Victor Carroon became lurks.

Tbh, my default reaction to any news involving Trump’s pet billionaire is this panel from All-Star Superman.

Happy Birthday Dr Who. What's your favourite story, doesn't have to be the best, just one that really sticks with you. Nothing’s really displaced this since 1988: Peggy Mount’s grumpiness! Ian Reddington’s quiet menace! TP McKenna’s blowhard Captain Cook! And the sly, smart and witty script.
Sylvester McCoy, the seventh and best Doctor, walks away from a circus tent as a big explosion starts behind him.
