You're proving the point. As she said, the KKK look different.

The issue isn't directly about cost. It's that generally poorer households are effectively Banned from installing them. Renters and flat owners can't benefit due to red tape, not cost. Same goes for electric car chargers.

The Hannibal directive means the IDF killing Israelis, and the Israeli defense minister said it happened.

Did you miss the part where the Israeli defense minister said the Hannibal directive did happen?

It would be impossible for inflation to outstrip pensions after the triple lock is scrapped as pensions will still rise each year by inflation or 2.5% (whichever is higher). It's the earnings part that will be scrapped.

I'm sure they do. The Palestine action protests although significant are tiny in comparison to all the Gaza protests.

The situation has changed but that can't change what has already happened. Was the Holocaust not a genocide because it isn't still happening?

Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Correct, a genocide was ongoing in September 2025. What's your point?

How does getting solar panels make them beholden to them once they have the solar panels? It isn't like a pipeline that can be turned off.

How long the count takes isn't related to who people voted for, all the votes need to be counted before we get the result. People in the room might get a sense of how it's going just by observing the votes being counted but we won't get any numbers until it's completed.

Eventually the heat will get in but opening windows probably speeds that up. In summer I leave mine open at night to cool the place down and shut them during the day. Houses in hotter countries tend to have more thermal mass to keep them cool for longer.

Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
I have a dehumidifier but only tend to use it if I'm drying clothes indoors when it's cold outside. The problem is they generate heat. It's actually more heat than they consume in electricity due to releasing latent heat of condensation. In winter the extra heat is a nice bonus.
110
Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
Yes, but during a heatwave the air you're moving into your home through the open windows is far hotter than the inside of your home, so will quickly heat it up.
110
Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
You can move air with a fan without letting the outside heat in. My home was max 24 degrees indoors today, outside was 34. Opening windows would have increased the indoor temperature.

Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
For ground floor windows, from the outside. For upstairs, reflective blinds or window screen would be the easiest option.
110
Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
If outside shutters are closed then the windows should also be closed anyway, otherwise you're just letting in the hot air from outside.

Did you miss the part about it being the hottest June day ever? Pretending something that's never happened before is normal isn't a great argument.

Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
Agreed, trees keep people and buildings cool. My home is partly shaded by several trees. It's been a slightly warm but not uncomfortable 24 degrees inside today while outside has been around 34 where I live.

Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
Air con would help but there's far cheaper alternatives that should be done first. Hot countries haven't always relied on air con to keep their buildings cool.

We are all awake. No one thinks solar alone will generate 100%, but a larger proportion of energy being generated by the cheapest sources (solar and wind) is a good thing.

It's interesting that most heat pumps they've installed are air to air. I don't understand why we've been so slow to adopt them in the UK.

I happen to not like the Harry Potter movies because I saw a couple of the early ones years ago and just didn't enjoy them. It's a relief to hear my movie preference make me not a transphobe.

I'm glad Starmer has kept out of it as well but when the US kills an entire primary school of children the correct response is just to condemn it, not point out someone else might have killed some of them anyway.

Using a persons religion to spread fear instead of looking at their actual record is low. Talarico has argued for separation of church and state, he's very prominently spoken against pushing religion in schools. This is the same dirty tactics Andrew Cuomo used against Zohran Mamdani.

I haven't tried curling but I'm pretty sure being able to put 75% of your bodyweight on a broom while sweeping rapidly and sliding along ice requires more strength than 5 push ups.

The main materials solar panels are made from are aluminum and glass. We've already been recycling coke cans and beer bottles for decades so it isn't an issue.

The Tories had a large majority and those same people literally ran the government departments you're complaining about. They could have done whatever they wanted, or resigned if they really were blocked from doing what they wanted.

Jon89 @jon89.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
The issue is these are the actual people in charge of tax and immigration under the Conservative government. The same people you've complained about. Reform are polling at around 25-30%, which isn't a majority.

The other issue affecting leaseholders is they are excluded (in practice) from most green energy schemes. Grants for home insulation or the boiler upgrade scheme end up being handouts to middle income homes with the poorest excluded and stuck paying higher energy bills.

Can't say I've ever cosplayed as an Arab before, I didn't realise that was required? My country didn't recognise the state of Palestine, now it does. Why are you here if you hate people using social media so much? I guess we're in the same situation except I don't have to resort to personal insults.

It's poor they took so long, closer ones have been done a lot quicker before. The other issue is the poor quality of the commentators/pundits who clearly don't understand the offside law and create so much outrage because of their own ignorance.
