Released a massive update of my coffee timer app, Single Origin. I wanted to brew the roaster-created recipes available on the Fellow Aiden & xBloom, so I built an app that guides you through every pour, agitation, etc. Since it's built with Expo, it runs on iOS, WatchOS, Android, & Web. 👇

I rebuilt my pour-over coffee app recently. AI wrote most of the code (but with my handwritten code from a previous version as context). App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/singl... Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/d... Web: single-origin.expo.app

My process: make a coffee, set a 25 min timer, put on a coding music playlist, and write down a goal. Would love to hear what you think of Expo when you try it!

My hunch is that mobile apps will only become more open/accessible, and it seems like RN being React is poised to be the default as apps become more like sites on the web.
120
Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 22/12/2025
With RN, we can dynamically load JS, we can breakout of the SPA-by-default patterns of traditional mobile dev, and maybe one day we’ll be able to search across and inside apps.

Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 22/12/2025
The web is an incredible distribution platform. You can easily share URLs that deep link into sites. You can even search across every site on the web. Mobile apps are behind on distribution. It seems like super apps are trying to solve this. They’re essentially browsers.

Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 16/12/2025
This is correct 👍

Agree. The three finger long press is far superior!

I love the design!

You could build the website with expo too. One codebase to rule them all 😇

These queue times are going to fluctuate as demand changes, but happy this week is looking better. You can see demand on our queue dashboard: expo.dev/eas-build-st...

We're keeping a close eye on queue times to make sure it's consistently better. It's really important to us that building your app on Expo is a nice experience, especially when you're working on a passion project.

The iOS queue times for Free plan users on @expo.dev were around 4 hours at this time last week. We increased our Mac capacity today. We're seeing <10 min queue times right now. ⚡ Subscribers are seeing 0 min queue times.

I added some error tracking and haven’t been able to see where it happens. I’ve also deleted and reinstalled the app many times and can’t reproduce it. Any ideas on what I can try to make it happen? I assume you deleted/reinstalled? Would love to track it down.

You might try bolt.new and use Expo. There’s no native build configuration to deal with and you can still use native code. Might help with Xcode builds failing/a tough debugging experience. Would be interested to see if you have more luck!

It looks like borderBottomWidth is not supported: reactnative.dev/docs/textinp... I would try removing styles from that text input and then adding a View around it to style it with your own look.

This is some real power. I just merged to `main` and my changes deployed to Android, iOS, and the web in ~4min total.

Congrats to us for winning best supporting actor/actress in the Bytes.dev OSScars
Best Supporting Actor/Actress: Expo. After years of supporting React Native, Expo has now teamed up with Al platforms like Replit and Bolt to allow developers (and normies) to build and ship mobile apps "without writing any code" - or at least a lot less code. Hopefully this will usher in another App Store golden age, because l've really been missing
Lightsaber Unleashed and Doodle Jump.

I’m not sure yet. I assume you deleted and reinstalled? Makes me wonder if the app got confused about which dictionary to use. Definitely sounds like a problem I need to fix. I can investigate!

Free accounts get 30 builds (up to 15 iOS), free submissions, 100K hosting requests, and ~60 over the air update publishes per month on @expo.dev. And now you can automate it all so that a push to main = delivered code.

Sometimes people ask me for my opinions about React Native tech and it's basically just this.
Panel 1: "Hi! My name is Jason". Panel 2, second person: "Ah! Nice to meet, you Jason". Panel 3, the person is taking that name and trying to jam it into their brain, where there are already some squares in their cartoon head. A small rectangle says "friends", a small one says "family", and a much larger one is the Expo logo. The first person's name is squished going in, clearly not sinking in. Panel 4, second person: "Say Jarvis, wanna hear about building truly universal native apps with React ath run on Android, iOS, and the web?"

That's it for today. We're still working on a bunch of things, like approval jobs, more pre-packaged jobs (like fingerprint), and later cron jobs for the biweekly release crowd. Is there a feature you'd love to see? Lmk!

Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 07/02/2025
📚 We have updated docs. Check out our new examples doc, which has easy to copy/edit workflow configs. We also have a new syntax guide. It's now easier to figure out everything you can automate.
130
Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 07/02/2025
🤳 Our UI is made for app developers. That means you can publish an update and your team will see a QR code to preview it in seconds. We'll also show you compatible builds for that update. Or you can even open it in Orbit!
130
Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 07/02/2025
🔄 You can now re-run entire workflows or from failed jobs. When you confirm, you'll *instantly* see the new workflow re-running. Great for flakey Maestro tests.
120
Jon Samp @jon.expo.app · 07/02/2025
✍️ We also made the list of jobs on the page match your YAML config. Why? You might have 10 jobs, then a build at the end, and you want your team to download the build. This makes it so that you can put the build first in your YAML and it'll appear above the fold.

We released a product called workflows, a React Native CI/CD, late last year. Heard a *ton* of feedback and there are a lot of new features. Let's dive in: 🗺️ We now display a topologically sorted map of your workflow, so you can see what's in progress, finished, failed, etc.
