Decriminalise abortion and make it a protected human right.
Women’s rights are under threat from the far right. Nigel Farage just called our current abortion provisions “utterly ludicrous” – and others in power are paying attention. A vote in Parliament could ...

It's come to my attention that some people believe you can't buy a new book until you've read the books you already have. Let me assure you, as both a lawyer and a writer, that this idea is legally and morally WRONG and BAD. Buy more books.

What an absurd notion. My books always need new friends - I like to think of them comparing how long they've been here at night when I'm doomscrolling.

Chapter 8: Beethoven's
Later Years
In the years after Napoleon's rise and fall as Emperor of France, Beethoven was in a flurry of musical writing. Being dead did not stop him in the slightest from recovering quickly and going on with his music. Sure, it was much harder. But he got through it.
He even fell in love many times. Some people

I only read the first, but feel, quarter of a century later, I should commit to the rest. The loyalty those books inspire is impressive - and he’s sort of forgotten now, even with the help of Russell Crowe.

An evergreen Black Friday/Holiday shopping tip 😉
From Clay Sanger

Reverse #Black Friday idea go pick an author you know or follow someone who isn't a chart topper on every bestsellers list — and snag one of their books today. Toss a coin to your Witcher and whatnot. Make their day. Put some feathered dinosaur on their table.

I used to wonder about this when I was young, seeing older women going out of the house with all their chin hairs - how could they? Now I know they literally couldn’t see them.

This is an absolutely thrilling read. @annamazz.bsky.social has really embraced the thriller genre and it stands up to all I've read before. You all really need to get this on your 2025 reading list. Notes on a Drowning, out in January @orionbooks.bsky.social

I was surprised to see a very large jay in the garden yesterday morning. Made a change from the usual flittery tiny garden birds. (Also how do you have a bird feeder with a cat? My two took down & eviscerated a pigeon last summer so I have reluctance.)

Her neighbour has also lived in the house all her life, but her great grandparents bought it in 1876, which is most likely the year it was built. One house, belonging to one family, but not an aristocratic house, just a normal Victorian terrace.

I met a woman on the bus tonight who lives round the corner. She asked how long I’d lived in my street and I was a bit surprised to answer 20 years. She’s lived in her house all her life - her parents bought it four years before she was born, and she’s 72. But then she mentioned her neighbour …
