Behind each banned or challenged title is an author being professionally—and sometimes personally—targeted for the stories they've chosen to share. For #BannedBooksWeek, @amlibraries.bsky.social spoke with five authors about their experiences. bit.ly/4ehBypJ
Graphic of an open book surrounded by headshots of five authors. Text below reads: "Authors Discuss Being Banned: For Banned Books Week, American Libraries spoke with five authors on ALA’s list of the Top 11 Most Challenged Books of 2025 to hear how their experiences affected them." Given the tiny % who may have to pay inheritance tax, I’d say these are the same ol, VIP lane pocket lining Tories fronted by a new face, having to face the reality of how pathetic it would look to beg all the racists that for decades, propped up Badenoch’s party to return.

Tory £6bn inheritance tax cut plan Increase threshold from £1m per couple to £2m+home. In 2024-25, 30,400 estates paid IHT, may rise to 52,100 in 2029-30. IHT cut for the richest, paid by cutting benefits for old, sick, disabled, unemployed. How will it help economic growth, reindustrialization?

So in the UK we now have the right scrapping with the far right, scrapping with the far-far right. Am I right?

I was a teen student waitressing at HoC. In the middle of a crowded event while serving canapés - tray in hand - Jeffrey Archer put his hands on my backside. I knew if I’d said anything I’d lose my job. Still upsets me. Sometimes it is appropriate to speak ill of the dead.

While sanitising the reputations of people like Jeffrey Archer and Rod Liddle is shameful, the problem isn’t that the next generation will be fooled by it, but that it will make them loathe us even more.

Setting aside that these are both odious humans, it's a good example of how the right just talk over the top of people who are proving them wrong, even when it's someone else from the right. They lie and then they shout so noone can hear them being corrected.

If these measures become normalised, it is simply the blueprint for what comes next. When councils start censoring heritage, targeting marginalised groups, and treating basic education as a political battleground, we all lose. We have to call this out before it normalises something much darker.

UK Libraries and educational resources are increasingly caught in the crosshairs of this brand of revisionism. Reform is already testing the boundaries of what local govt can do through initiatives like Operation Vanguard, deploying private security street patrols under manufactured pretences.

Recognising the history of a marginalised group isn't saying they matter more than everyone else, and calling that racism turns reality on its head.

Cllr Dr George Woodward and Reform UK are dragging local politics deeper into dangerous far right culture wars, and we need to talk about what is happening. When local politicians start dictating what children can learn, we need to be paying attention.
