Hi Miguel. We have the calibration process starting now we have all the data. Obviously that takes a bit of time, but we will release the data with a doi and a public update to the RAPID timeseries by September.

We are here to learn more about the Atlantic Meridional Circulations. The #AMOC moves warm water from the tropics and to northern Europe and keeps our climate nice and temperate (not that it probably feels like that this week back in the UK!).

Excited as we leave on the #RAPID expedition. I am really looking forward to spending some time at sea, getting involved in some of the science and really getting a feel for what observational oceanography is all about. #ModellersAtSea

Being an RSE isnt always just sitting at your desk. This week I aided in the deployment of the RAPID 26N WB2 sensor mooring for monitoring the change in the AMOC by optimising the tools used to verify and log the sensors going on to the mooring, all whilst aboard RRS Discovery.
A ships crew are working together to lower a float, with multiple sensors attached, into the ocean.

🌊 marine heatwaves may sound strange, and who cares if water heats up a little bit? Well we all should. Everything from the weather we encounter (goodbye Storm #Darragh and good riddance) to marine ecosystems are sensitive to small changes in ocean temperatures. So we really should care.

Scientists have produced bar graphs and hockey stick line graphs for decades. But what seems to have struck the imagination are the climate stripes. So let’s get those stripes out there!

John Siddorn @johsid.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
I personally prefer the bar graph - it works for me. But surely that’s irrelevant? I am, we aren’t, the audience. The audience must be the people who aren’t yet engaged. And dismissing the climate stripes as wrong seems to me to be missing the point.
