My phys ed consisted of exercising every option to get out of phys ed. I did a semester of ceramics instead. They tried to push me into a gym class, but I was 48 by the time I graduated in 2002. I convinced them they didn't want a heart attack on their record.

I was driving around on a trip back to Michigan in 2014. In a wooded plot next to the community college I went to in Muskegon, I saw these strange-looking birds. I didn't discover until 10 years later they were sandhill cranes. 7/9/14.

I've been itching to do a road trip for a while now, but it has been a horribly busy summer. Between weddings, graduations, funerals, and urgent repairs on the house, there hasn't been more than a couple of days in a row with nothing going on. My wife pointed out we had nearly a whole week with nothing. "Maybe we could go somewhere to see the fall colors." The Upper Peninsula of MI has lots of mixed tree forests, and it's usually a bit ahead of us in the transition to fall, so off we went. We got there at the perfect time. I don't think I've ever seen colors this vivid over such a wide area. With all the other stuff I saw and recorded as well, I have plenty to keep me busy for a while.

We have that ahead of us. The state is shoving a roundabout down our throats in an area with lots of semis, grain trucks, huge farm equipment, and hundreds of people from the Bobcat factory hitting that intersection at the same time. Those who favor it always include "but studies have shown".
