He goes on, "While his position has been very hard for me to understand, I am sure that it does not suggest either hatred or fear." The article then goes on about Ford's blatant hatred and fear of Jewish people in every antisemitic variety.

Have media outlets always been this clinically naïve? I'm reminded of the Collier's Weekly Henry Ford interview where the interviewer says "…I, at least, could never discover any of the ordinary varieties of anti-Semitism in his attitude."

Impossible to understand how anyone could look at Rufo's career and conclude he was someone engaged in a "forthright defense of meritocracy." Rufo's entire career is built on the idea of purging people who don't think or look like him from positions of power.

“No NEW wars” was the trick, and I can’t believe people fell for it, but many did (including most media). If Americans have to hear about war in a new location, that is bad and the US president’s fault (Libya, Ukraine). Trump Term 1 worsened Syria, Iran, Yemen, Afghanistan, but that doesn’t count.

A clear example of bad faith, and why it’s a mistake to indulge bad faith. “Weaponization of DOJ” was always a blatant lie, a made up accusation from people who were eager to do the very thing they were pretending to oppose. Indulging that helped the liars, and empowered them to end rule of law.

Laugh at Eric Schmitt and Co. for Hawkeyes/Hawks, sure. Their screw up is funny and they deserve the mockery. But also, this was the GOP and allied media geared up to defend a coup attempt with lies and jail a prosecutor because he tried to enforce the law against a criminal. How far we've fallen.

Oligarchs. The word for very rich businesspeople directly connected to the top of the government and playing a role in high-level government functions is “oligarchs.” Way beyond lobbying, donating, and advisory councils. Trump brought them on his trip to China too. America has oligarchs now.

We’re at the “shipping container courts” stage of ICE’s mass expansion of the enforcement system.
Each detention unit would sit on asphalt or concrete behind an office's existing security fence, with a counter for processing people and a separate holding area fitted with a toilet and sink for detainees according to the draft work statement.
The agency also wants a 300-square-foot unit for interviewing people in custody and a 60-square-foot "Virtual Immigration Court Unit" for hearings run by the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Justice Department agency that operates the immigration courts.
Both must also be designed for their purpose before delivery.

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

We must be allowed to break laws with impunity so we can birth the machine god before others, and if we can’t steal and hack and crime, then the inevitable machine god won’t have the values we want and you’ll be sorry. Sounds insane, but that’s a prevalent, influential, respected ethos today.

Viewing an out-group as an existential threat (for reasons both real or imagined) and believing the in-group's success or survival depends on the repression or eradication of that out-group. Removing the value judgement on whether the counter-extremism is "justified" still leaves all the dangers.

When the US bombed an Iranian school, killing over 100 kids, it involved over-reliance on an AI targeting system called "Maven," which based it on outdated information. I called it in @foreignpolicy.com in April Now confirmed in @bloomberg.com report of Pentagon investigation
Keep Humans in the Loop
AI has a place in military targeting—but it needs safeguards.

By Nicholas Grossman, a professor of international relations at the University of Illinois, editor of Arc Digital, and the author of Drones and Terrorism.

In the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, airstrikes hit an elementary school in Iran, killing at least 175, most of them children.

From: https://foreignpolicy.com/2026/04/14/ai-targeting-iran-school-airstrikes-pentagon-anthropic/This time, AI may have played a role, perhaps relying on old information. The school was adjacent to Iranian naval facilities and had once been a part of them. A large language model like Claude or ChatGPT could make that kind of error by consuming outdated information at a higher volume and giving it greater weight than more current info—or perhaps by failing to spot something a human might have caught, such as a school sign or children playing.

From: https://foreignpolicy.com/2026/04/14/ai-targeting-iran-school-airstrikes-pentagon-anthropic/The public doesn’t know if AI chose the Iranian school, but we know the U.S. military is using an AI-powered system called Maven in Iran to help identify targets. Similarly, the Israeli military used a system called Lavender to identify targets in Gaza. Both wars featured a record-high rate of precision strikes compared to previous air campaigns.

NEW: DHS's Inspector General releases a scathing report about the Everglades detention camp known as "Alligator Alcatraz." The OIG finds that the now-closed camp, violated multiple ICE standards. The OIG also confirms detainees were punished with placement in a metal cage in the Florida heat.🧵
OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Staff also reported that time spent in the small metal enclosures is closely monitored, and
detainees are not locked in, even though we observed locking mechanisms on the enclosures.
Figures 11 and 12. Small Metal Enclosures; Observed January 21, 2026

Underneath is a picture of a metal cage that is 4 feet 3 inches wide by 4 feet 3 inches long, and 7 feet 9 inches high. The cage itself is placed on a tiny spot of fake turf, and then surrounded by another chainlink fence with razor wire on top. The cage is covered by a roof, but it's entirely exposed to the outside otherwise, meaning mosquitos and no air conditioning.
