Here's a link to a post I made about politics, fears of a civil war, and two excellent articles I encountered: heron61.dreamwidth.org/1593615.html

I had no idea ramen, much less ramen with gluten free (homemade) noodles could be that good. We just got back from Baka Umai at 47th & SE Hawthorne, and I can definitely report that their yuzu miso ramen with pulled pork was *incredible*, and only about $20. They also serve homemade wheat noddles.

Damn, that arch *really* wants to be openly nazi shit, that's horrifying, but hopefully it will cause at least a few more people to wake the hell up. Wow

I realized that I hadn't worried about nuclear war since the 1980s, and I'm deeply unhappy about having to do so again. Also, here's my favorite song about nuclear apocalypse (Goodnight London, by Seeming): www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-bb...

I've previously said that if the US attacked Iran I'd fly an Iranian flag, but after the Iranian government killed so many protesters, I can't. We have three nations at war, the US and Israel vs Iran, and the absolute best outcome would be all three of the leaders of these three nations to die asap.

At this point, I suspect that civil war in the US in inevitable, and I remain haunted by a quote I saw on Facebook several weeks ago "When they write histories of this time, they'll say that the US civil war started on January 6, 2021, and I have great difficulty saying this is incorrect.

No one, I'd save Bobby Kennedy, he'd have easily beat Nixon, and that may well have killed Nixon's "southern strategy" (aka welcoming bigots into the GOP) and avoided both Reagan, Shrub, and our current mess. If I need to kill, I'd kill Reagan before 1980. The rot well predates 47.

I entirely agree. Denying children vaccines w/o a medical reason to do so should be treated as child abuse and should result in either mandatory vaccination or the children being taken from their willful idiot anti-vax parents

At this point, I'd consider another nation bombing the White House and Mar-a-Lago as saving the country. If we end up in a lengthy war with anyone, I'm flaying their flag openly

So, I'm seeing that DHS is now claiming that the two people they shot in Portland on Thursday were both Venezuelan gang members, given how much the entire executive branch lies, I'm assuming this means they are both likely to be Hispanic. I'm quite pleased that our mayor is similarly dubious.

Yay, and also thank you for having your ebooks on sites other than Amazon (and especially on awesome sites like Smashwords where you can actually download DRM-free books)

To be fair, the LA cops have been like this since Raymond Chandler wrote about them in his Philip Marlowe novels in the late 1940s - they are utterly horrible and monstrous and seem to always have been.

Here's a post about how my mom and my media worlds are swiftly diverging, despite her listening to ABC, NBC, and CNN news, reading the Washington Post, and never touching faux news or anything similar (the reason is evil media owning billionaires): heron61.dreamwidth.org/1591949.html

Same - I tried some AI art when it first came out and have never used any of the AI chat bots/terrible lying search engines, and when I got my new phone I immediately proceeded to turn off every bit of AI I could. I'd be deeply ashamed to admit I couldn't function w/o AI crap.

I watch this several times and finally realized why it struck me as *so* bad - my mom used to do this for my dad all the time (who died of Alzheimer's), when he was still mobile. He's likely no more than a year or to out from losing mobility and being *really* obviously not there

Wow, according to various "centrists" (aka "good Germans"), and also for some reason Bernie Sanders, defending trans rights is too risky for Democratic candidates, but having an actual nazi tattoo isn't - ugh, those people are utterly worthless.

At this point the boat murders a either the prelude to war with Venezuela, or because 47 loves the idea of being able to order people to be killed, and this is a horrifyingly acceptable method of doing so

I saw this and it sounded liked you meant that the dude covered up his nazi tattoo with *another* nazi tattoo, and thought that he couldn't actually be that stupid &/or blatant, but no, he actually is wow. I'm also furious/disgusted with Bernie Sanders defending him.

John Snead @johnsnead.bsky.social · 22/10/2025
Agreed, and 47 is clearly that 12 year old that everyone is deeply concerned about, with him wanting to create a moat in front of his border wall and fill it with rattlesnakes and alligators, and also with that insane AI video he posted of him flying a fighter jet that bombs poop onto protesters

It's now all over mainstream media, and lines like "The event could include Navy ships firing live military ordinance over the 5 Freeway and onto Camp Pendleton." are (to me at least) horrifying and it's clearly intimidation, but also no one is attacking CA (sadly I feel compelled to at a "yet")
021
John Snead @johnsnead.bsky.social · 16/10/2025
I assumed this was a hoax when I first saw it, but no the Marines will shell CA with "live military ordinance" this Friday or Saturday, allegedly as part of the military's 250th, but clearly to intimidate us before Saturday's protests. This is legitimately horrifying: abc7.com/post/5-could...
abc7.com
5 Freeway could be shut down due to concerns for live fire during military event at Camp Pendleton
Parts of the 5 Freeway could be shut down between Los Angeles and San Diego due to concerns of live fire during a military event.

I have great difficulty believing that this is true, simply because I don't think Biden and Garland were *that* negligent. My guess is that he's protecting someone he owes big (like some Russian oligarch)

I mostly listen to folk music, but I'm very broad in what I consider folk. Recently, due to obvious reasons I've been listening to more folk punk, and here's one by Frank Turner that I think people here will like: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KuF...

I was just glad it wasn't one of the increasingly terrible episodes focusing on Spock's love life, but yeah other than "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail" (which I quite liked), this season has ranged from barely ok to dreadful.

followed by my first time going to a Middle Eastern restaurant that’s literally 2 blocks away, and was utterly delicious – I had never had dolmas that there quite that excellent, and the rest was equally good. Today included a trip to a lovely GF bakery for donuts and cupcakes.

Yesterday I turned 64 (one of my good friends pointed out, it’s the first age celebrated in song for decades – there’s an abundance of songs about turning 16 (including no shortage of deeply creepy songs about girls turning 16), lots about turning 21 (continued in comments)

But also saw how he didn't agree with that faith on their views about homosexuality, which kept me reading his work. Then, I recently read The Lost Metal (2022), and saw that a minor character was a lesbian in a happy relationship, and was very pleased indeed.

I recently got a new phone, and am selling my old one. Before I put it up on ebay, I thought I'd see if anyone here wanted it - it's an unlocked T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, with 256 GB storage, and I'm selling it for $380, including priority mail shipping anywhere in the US. It works great.

I agree, but would love to see two changes - the first would be making copyright *only* apply to humans, never corporations. Also, the 75 years after death rule has killed the public domain to please Disney, the older 20 years with renewal for 25 worked well and led to a thriving public domain.

Alt National Parks are conspiracy peddlers who are dead wrong about the protest numbers (everyone reliable is saying 4-6millions), please don't believe *anything* coming from Alt National Parks, they are not to be trusted (no idea if they're grifters, griefers, or simply idiots).

At this point, I'm wondering how much of Space X is a grift. Sure, it can and does produce rockets that work, but it also has lots of ones that blow up, perhaps because Musk and other keep stealing the money needed to make them work.

John Snead @johnsnead.bsky.social · 17/06/2025
That definitely didn't help, but I think the ultimate driver of this crap is racism - the fact that a horrifyingly large % of white people in the US would rather suffer if it means black people suffer more.

Yep, Newsome is a slick opportunistic skeazebag, but he's also firmly anti-47 and willing to fight, and at this point anyone being that strongly anti-47 is vitally important.

John Snead @johnsnead.bsky.social · 08/06/2025
To be very clear, I don't think there's any reasonable chance that we can just vote our way out of fascism. Voting may help, but definitely won't be sufficient.
010
John Snead @johnsnead.bsky.social · 08/06/2025
For now, our job is for all of us to do our best to help everyone protesting or targeted the fasc make it home safely. We definitely shouldn't *start* violence (yet), but we're not far from the time where we need to respond to violence with violence, and making certain some of them don't come home.
