Weird how this kind of thing keeps happening. Amazing coincidences...

That's another silly reply.

I mean does it not occur to you that this argument requires you to give to the realm of physics the same level of magical thinking that you have to give to the god who inhabits it? Yeah ok, then if I can't dismiss magic then anything is possible. However, it is rational to dismiss magic.

What a profoundly silly reply. Would you have preferred me to say that it defies the law of physics except for the wholly imaginary ones that you have to invoke so that magic beings get a get-out clause from the actual laws of physics? Even advanced life forms obey the laws of thermodynamics.

It's perfectly rational. It defies the laws of physics.

It's mad isn't it, how the entire national establishment seems to indulge this elaborate lie. It's 2026 FGS.

We'll see, but I think Trump and MAGA are products of a set of circumstances that are unique to the US.

I changed my password to something I wouldn't remember and then logged out. It's still there if I ever wanted to go back to it, but I haven't missed it at all.

Yes, I'm not going to indulge anyone policing the use of language as it is used and understood by billions of people.

Because no citizens of the US ever call themselves Americans right? And Canadians and Mexicans call themselves Americans all the time...

Americans, do you all understand how deeply weird you look to the rest of the world?

No it doesn't. Other people getting on with their lives doesn't take anything from you.

They don't want an enlightened future. They want an oppressive future, in which they get to dominate by subjugating everyone else.

Unpopular opinion, but I find Terry Pratchett hard going. I just can't get into his level of zanyness.

The worst thing about this is that Labour could just change the law to circumvent the Supreme Court, but they won't.

Something intensely creepy about these "concerned fathers" performatively protecting their daughters from threats that only exist in their imagination.

I don't think we even disagree. It is possible for both pensioners and young people to be aggrieved by a failing system for different reasons. It's v telling that pensioners are *already* unhappy with the state pension age going up. How much worse will it be in 40 years for those starting work now?
100
Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
And fwiw, I don't think young people are hostile to pensioners. They are hostile to a broken system which is resulting in generational inequality. You can't just expect them to sign up to that without complaint because an earlier generation want what they see as their dues.
110
Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
I think you're misguided in your hostility to young people. And your emotional blackmail doesn't work. "I've contributed to this Ponzi scheme for years and therefore you owe it to me to join the Ponzi scheme..."

A tracker fund has nothing to do with hedge funds. It's silly replying to all of these false premises you keep throwing out.

Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
The cash ISA limit will still be £12K. Which low income families have more than £12K to put aside every year, not including any pension savings?
000
Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
They could, yes, and leave lots of people to be far worse off than they could otherwise be - which is exactly what the post I replied to called undesirable.
100
Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
Then they can't afford Cash ISAs anyway. It's a moot point.
000
Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
I don't think it's good enough to treat younger people as if they are clueless or unreasonable in this. The state pension is a Ponzi scheme and they can see it. When it started there were 20 workers per recipient of the state pension. It will soon fall below 3.
110
Johnsays @johnsays.bsky.social · 14/12/2025
Cash has grown far more slowly than the stock market. It makes sense to encourage people to use their ISAs for investments rather than holding cash.
