Prepping some other materials and re-found this gem: A Chinese description of the #brooklynbridge with an illustration made by someone who only looked at the description. Love the #minarets which, from an 1892 Chinese perspective, are a generically "foreign" architectural element #skystorians

Migration from Mexico would resume during WWII - although predominantly associated with agricultural jobs, many came to work on railroads in Ohio. braceroarchive.org/items/show/493 #braceroprogram #immigrationhistory #mexicanamericanhistory #ohiohistory #wauseon

The reference: while Mexican Repatriation is often thought of as a Southwestern phenomenon, other regions of the country engaged in this often coercive "voluntary" repatriation as well. Ohio also participated as well. NYT 20 March 1934. #ohiohistory #mexicanrepatriation #skystorians #greatdepression

List of food riots in 1776 in the American Revolution -- focus of early riots was high cost of imports, while later riots shifted to urban cities and focused basic commodities. People in towns and cities would trade tea and coffee for groceries. Currency was depreciating as well. #inflation 🗃️

Also in the 1970s and 1980s predominantly Latino farmworkers in Ohio and Michigan organized with help from Baldemar Velásquez, pressuring Campbell Soup and farmers for better working conditions. They organized a 600-mile march from Ohio to New Jersey. #ohiohistory #laborhistory #farmworkers #floc
