In our latest scientific blog, @johnnyparr.bsky.social describes the high rates of falls in children and adults (mean age 44 yrs) with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). DCD adults were nine (!) times more likely than controls to fall at least once a month. ispgr.org/developmenta...

Does your child have dyspraxia/DCD? 🧠⚖️ We’re researching why balance can be difficult and how the brain responds when balance is lost. Manchester-based study, one 2-hour visit. 📩 If interested, email G.Warlop@mmu.ac.uk for more details (or comment below😊). Full details 👇

People with dyspraxia are at high risk of falling – and it’s too often overlooked
Most (72%) people with dyspraxia report high anxiety about falling – yet they’re not even mentioned in fall prevention guidelines.

So happy our latest study is finally published! We show that falls are a major issue across the lifespan for individuals with DCD (i.e., Dyspraxia). Developmental Coordination Disorder: A Hidden Epidemic of Falls journals.humankinetics.com/view/journal... Key findings 👇

It's Dyspraxia Awareness Week! Please share this information video we commissioned from dyspraxic animator Charlotte O'Neill, explaining a bit about dyspraxia (aka developmental coordination disorder). The video is suitable for school-aged kids, so share widely. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pamE...

Why is recovering from a loss of balance sometimes harder when we overthink it? In our new EEG study (now out in Jneuro!), we show that consciously controlling balance dampens the cortical response to a sudden loss of balance (and balance gets worse)! www.jneurosci.org/content/44/4...

First 'proper' post here (and a lazy quote repost at that :D). New paper published in J Neuroscience. Here we explore the neural mechanisms underpinning the paradoxical decreases in stability that occur when people try to consciously control balance. www.jneurosci.org/content/44/4...
