Is old enough to be president herself

It honestly should not even wait until the presidency ends. Once dems retake congress, they should pass a joint resolution immediately, formally rejecting the gift and ordering its immediate return or disassembly and destruction, citing the emoluments clause

Genuinely thought the attached post was pro-immigrant until the last paragraph. Kept reading it like “hell yeah”

If UEFA holds their own competition simultaneously with the FIFA World Cup, they should call the winner “World Champions” since they will have a strong claim of winning the most prestigious Championship held in their sport at that point in time (this is a reference to NBA crowning “World Champions”)

Definitely feels like England got robbed of a corner kick at the end of the half. Phenomenal sport in which the period of play ends entirely at the officials discretion and there is no uniform rules about what extends play.

Absolutely, and I’m pissed as hell at Trump for using his cronyism to get the ban lifted. It’s a no-win situation for Balogun and the USMNT as a whole. But to say “Balogun only has smarts+moral integrity if he sits himself” places the onus of discipline and officiating on the player, which is wrong

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
Like I said, US should be sanctioned for that interference, and probably heavily so. But to say the onus is on the players to enforce the rules or self-impose a ban is just foolish

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
No absolutely - it comes down to interference by the president of the United States involving himself in the officiating and resulting disciplinary process. But to involve yourself in that bureaucratic politicking at the expense of yourself and your team, is just blacklisting yourself at this point

If you think any manager or owner would sign a player who inserted himself in league bureaucracy and self-flagellated to make up for poor officiating, versus one who took to the field, accepted rulings from the league, and did their job… that’s just not based in reality

Believe it or not, this type of tantrum has precedent…

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
You’re literally asking a player in his prime to self-immolate his career because the sports governing body ruled “in his favor”. Call for the US to get sanctioned, removed from the tournament, banned from the sport, but to put the onus on a person to ruin their career over this is nonsensical

Anyone calling for him to bench himself need to genuinely touch grass. Asking a player to self-immolate their careers because the sport’s governing body voted “in their favor” has terminal Bluesky brain

I understand the hate, I just don’t understand why all this hate is coming … now? This isn’t even in the Top 5 worst things the USA/Trump administration did this tournament. Trump could literally revoke their visas and make Belgium commute from Mexico like they did Iran

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
True, like how England’s only World Cup doesn’t count because African Nations were screwed by FIFA and didn’t participate
010 0
John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
I mean, that asterisk was always going to be there. We killed a competing nation’s leader and forced them to commute from Mexico… this isn’t even in the top 5 worst things we’ve done in this tournament, imo. But ask Argentina - an asterisked WC is better than no WC

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
True. On-field is shithousery, off-field is corruption. To understand the difference: Argentina’s 1978 championship was corruption, and Argentina’s 1986 World Cup was shithousery

Hahaha, I guess it depends. I think for soccer, 28-31 is closer to “middle-aged” to be honest. In that context, it just means to be half a step behind your physical prime. Over the hill would mean you’re significantly slower and less impactful than your prime.

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
I agree the fact his age is totally irrelevant to whether he should be suspended or not, but calling that a middle-aged man is just as foolish as acting like he’s a child

Honestly, the smartest thing Infantino can do is reverse any and all red card suspensions for the rest of the tournament. Good for the goose, good for the gander

However, if any athlete wanted to abstain from this tournament entirely for the ethical issues plaguing it, I would 100% support them.

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
Ok, but Bosnia still had the 1-man advantage and couldn’t convert. If they had, this entire saga would have been avoided. Really, they are at fault when you think about it 😂

John Dunlap-Conway @johnnydunway.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
I don’t think the onus is on Balogun to “sit himself” to try and absolve him of the sins of his country and the bureaucrats of his sport - the US should be sanctioned for this corruption, but the athletes themselves should be free to play the sport without getting involved in the politics.

Honestly the funniest thing is the US beat Belgium handily without Balogun being a factor, but then Belgium’s appeal actually reinstates the ban during our match against Spain, and we get codwalloped 😂

The people On Here (and there are many!) saying if Balogun plays today it ruins his career and taints American soccer FOREVER (!!) would not have survived the 2017 Houston Astros cheating scandal lol.

But at the end of the day, Argentina have 2 more World Cups than England — it’s a sport dominated by shithousery and corruption, on and off the pitch. Don’t blame the US, it’s not even our sport

It seems like people are wayyy more upset about this than even worse things this tournament, like the treatment of the Iranian team, for example. Some are even saying Balogun should sit himself, which is essentially asking him to commit career suicide, to stick it to Trump.

Ethical resolution is to abstain from international play entirely until new leadership makes concrete changes to the organizations business practices (2/2)

If your argument that the only ethical thing to do is sit out this one particular game … it falls kind of flat. FIFA is an incredibly corrupt organization organization that is willing to stomach literal slavery to make a $. If you are concerned with ethics, the only real (1/2)

Genuinely ask any of them how they would react in our position. If Harry Kane got shown a red for his foul in the game against Mexico, England fans would be bellyaching for an appeal until their next game. And honestly, I would hope they get it.

If I’m Lutnick, I’m spending the rest of the match grilling Infantino to rescind the red card suspension on Balogun, should the US advance. Then again, if I’m Lutnick, I’d be on the Epstein list, so I’d have bigger problems…

Given Brazil’s defeat of Japan, there are only two countries left in the tournament who colloquially refer to the sport as “Soccer” (USA, CANADA)

The only way England will get its hands on another World Cup trophy is if a third-world country wins it first, and it then The British Museum expropriates it.
