Hear my name, take a good look, no surprise for an #Iowa victory in Seattle with No. 10 under center. #GoHawks #thiscouldbetheday

Heck, I’d even consider starting him on other days!

My theory: “everything is better in Seattle” which is likely true and I don’t think we need to test it out.

Offense looks vastly different tonight with Hecklinski. Not sure it’s all him, but the attack is way more diverse. Moulton a beast. W defense might be atrocious. OL working. Go Hawks.

Not sure how no. 7 was ever a backup on Washington.

Truth, very banker-like approach. Avoid paying talent and avoid high sticker prices at all cost.

It’s an indictment of the full system. The prospects don’t pan out like the better pipelines, the FA’s are mid, the drafts bad, and the trades are one year propositions at best. The plan is shaky, accountability nonexistent.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Progress isn’t linear, as the championship manager forced out often said. The Cubs learn this lesson harshly every year. They need Seiya. Any replacement bat with that power isn’t going to come cheap. If the Cubs FO doesn’t understand that, we got the wrong guys in the FO.

Cannot wait for the leaks to media crying poor when PCA pushes for an extension as soon as 2028. The problem isn’t the Cubs budget. It’s the mismanagement of the Cubs budget with no foresight or understanding of market conditions, respective to development timeline.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Our GM surely knew Seiya was coming off the books when we forked over an above-market deal for Nico Hoerner that is gonna age badly.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Our dipshit GM overpays for mid level relievers and washed up second-chances year after year. (Maton, Harvey, Pressly, Neris, Austin, Kelly, more). Yet another indictment on overall pipeline.

I can be convinced either way on Seiya Suzuki, re-signing with #Cubs. But I can’t stomach the Cubs FO hand-wringing and excuse making, dribbled out to usual media suspects. “Well, we gotta sign pitching, so [shrug].” 1/ www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2026/10...

No Clincher, No Games, No More Suzuki(?), No Acuña, and Other Cubs Bullets
The odds are still against the Cubs retaining Seiya Suzuki.

This is an incredible baseball game if you have no rooting interest.

Excruciating game for ChiSox and Cleveland fans. Man, I miss this. Cubs would not have scored at this point in the game, FWIW.

Good for Stammen for removing Matsui before facing Joey Ortiz. No one sees Joey Ortiz coming. Bats .856 against lefties. Bats .733 in the clutch. (Jed reminds you momentum isn’t real and Matt Shaw has gotten a lot better against lefties himself!)

Milwaukee is an incredible 37-36 when giving up the first run of the game. 3-3 vs. the Cubs, in case you wondered.

Obviously that reminded me of Kris Bryant tagging on a pop against the Dodgers in the NLCS 2016, teams are of the same cloth.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Fox announcers did not even think that Cooper Pratt was going home on that shallow sac fly, but that LF made the play nonchalant and the Brewers need no quarter. They are from hell.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Also, looks like the Yankees might benefit from fresh eyes, perhaps Jed could finally install the financial discipline Cashman never could, and Ian Happ is gonna rake with that short porch and a no-trade clause.

Sox are about to advance further than Jed ever has, depending on how many of Theo’s accomplishments he actually takes credit for.

“That’s nothing,” says #Cubs GM Jed Hoyer after the Sox took a 2-game lead on Cleveland, “check out all these Michael Busch fly outs to the warning track, if anything, he should have had 47 homers!”
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Look at the White Sox bats coming through with contact, yet over here on #Cubs media we’re arguing which mid pitcher to extend, and that our offense isn’t a problem.
000
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Clutch is repeatable when you have an offense full of killers like Milwaukee. It is not repeatable when your offense is full of house cats.
000
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I didn’t check but I expect on #Cubs Twitter after this play there were numerous lectures about “clutch isn’t repeatable” and “momentum isn’t real” from a bunch of dopes encouraging the Cubs to resign Clay Holmes and extend Michael Busch.

The Brewers are exactly like the 2016 Cubs. Today was the “Game 4 vs Giants” portion of the show.

You know who’s gonna hit Nick Pivetta and Michael King? The Brewers. Just watch. Cubs improvement has to come in all phases. And the sooner they move on from low-impact talent like Happ, Suzuki, Busch, the catchers, the better.
110
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
This shit is all over Twitter, plus the Jed Hoyer press conference nonsense about finding more pitching. The #Cubs offense is mid. A bunch of kind of good players, so glad they lit up aggregate stats like wOBA and RPG. You cannot trust them, plus they rode an MVP season that won’t be repeatable.
110
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
We can’t just keep bringing back the same guys on offense year after year and assume the results will be different. I’m less than thrilled about watching the six-week cold spells increase when SS hits his mid-30s.
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I personally agree with moving on from Seiya. (To break patterns, you have to “break patterns”.) But it’s always tiresome for the poor #Cubs front office to whine about how much free agents cost. The 2029 PCA trade request is gonna be fire.
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Dusty carried that all the way through 2004. And broke awesome pitchers along the way.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
In 2015 that Mets sweep sucked but that team was clearly on the way up. The 2017 NLCS loss was hard but we got everything out of that team and the NLDS was one of my favorite series we ever played.
010
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I omitted 2003 because even with that crushing lost, I look back on that team with high regard, and the season was awesome. I’ve pretty consistently said that 2004 collapse feels a lot like the 2026 final week-plus. No demoralizing playoff loss to point at.

Makes you wonder what 1B they will finally shell out for if Busch repeats his 2026.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I hope the 2026 offensive season is an outlier. He was raking during July and early August when the Cubs were hot, so it’s possible it’s an aberration.
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
He’s been a good player for quite some time and he’s had some great moments for the Cubs — that three-run homer against Peralta and MKE in particular. My problem is the FO overrates their own talent, rewards their own biases, would rather prove themselves right than get better. Happ is Example A.
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Nico contract extension is fireable all by itself.
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Far too many Cubs fans dive into ratios and speculative stats like that if only to counter their own eyes, and perhaps find some data point that proves a player they like isn’t completely soft.
100
John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
All the stats that actually mean nothing. If have weighted leaves rake ratio of 1.465, that may look great, but not if the leaves don’t get raked.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
“He’s the Chicago Cubs.” Yes, this is literally one of the biggest problems, and why the #Cubs are good but not great.

John Hanley @johnjhanley.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
In postgame comments, PCA angry at himself, Bregman calls season a “failure.” Everyone else talking about how great it is to play at Wrigley. I’ll let you decide which should be the standard.

Not ranked, 2003, 2016, 2017. Losses in 2003 and 17 hurt but those teams made noise and got clipped.
