Can't get over how weird the picture is of Enzo Maresca that BBC Sport are running with. Is it me or is it Dr Robotnik?

Excited to announce my first book is out in September: Indefensible: How Lawyers Failed to Stop the Post Office Scandal. The Post Office scandal wasn’t just corporate failure. It was a legal one. Published by @brisunipress.bsky.social. Pr-order here: bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/trade/indefe...

In Manchester for the Conservative Party Conference, where former home secretary Suella Braverman has called for parliament to routinely review judge decisions for mistakes. Says country needs to get back to 'culture of judicial deference'.

Not saying the Conservatives are leaning into the Reform agenda, but this is the title of shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick's speech at the Tory Party Conference.

The second episode of #adolescence set in school is harrowing and so instructive. The problem isn't just phones, but children penned in cramped conditions, surrounded by noise and bound by arbitrary rules like shirts tucked in. We treat them like animals and expect to produce rounded adults.

Jonathan Reynolds corrected the record in parliament yesterday over his solicitor claim from 2014.

Gene Hackman will rightly get plaudits for so many films, but for those who like a legal drama, he does a brilliant turn in the underrated Runaway Jury. Him and Hoffman bouncing off each other is a treat.

Have heard lots of horror stories about the state of Cardiff Civil and Family Justice Centre so I've come for myself to take a look...

Finished #blackdoves and would highly recommend. Only slightly tarnished by me asking 'why is London so empty at Christmas?' every five minutes.

The roads outside the RCJ have been closed all lunchtime after a sit down protest by anti-corruption campaigners. Hundreds of people, all remarkably civilised.

This is a ridiculous excuse from the England cricket coach. We're talking about professional players with access to top training facilities, not a reluctant jogger worried it's a bit cold out.

This law firm's choice of stock image for 'dispute resolution' on its website is superb.

Ah, not you too Greenock Telegraph. Once more for those at the back: there is no such thing as a legal aid 'payout'. Law firms being paid for representing people who need representing is not news.

Lots of talk about remote working this week. I *could* be sat in an office having done a £42 90-minute commute. Or... I could take my laptop to Jimmy's Farm, finish my work and go see capybaras at lunch. 🤔

Reading Rory Stewart's Politics on the Edge, and his account of the chaos and under-funding of the MoJ is shocking.

Oh my Christ what a finale that was. Arguably Gavin and Stacey was the best final episode I've ever seen.

Barrister Charlotte Proudman cleared over comments about a ruling. Tribunal found tweets may have been unpleasant for judge or even hurtful. 'But they are not gravely damaging to judiciary... the judiciary of England and Wales is far more robust than that.' www.lawgazette.co.uk/news/proudma...

The tragic story of Sara Sharif is almost beyond belief. And the fateful decisions of both social services and the family court seem highly questionable, to say the least. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Won't link to it, but this is such a sneering, pointless article from the DM. It should be fairly clear that we need lawyers, particularly those doing legally-aided work who fall below the £67k threshold.

Highly recommend Until I Kill You, a new ITV drama starring Anna Maxwell Martin (incredible, BTW) and based on a true story. Brilliantly done, but genuinely distressing to see the way victims of domestic abuse were (are?) treated in the criminal justice system.

These were the judge's remarks when climate protesters were jailed after they blocked the M25. It will be interesting to see what action, if any, is taken against farmers effectively bringing London to a standstill today.

Even if you're not a cricket fan, can't recommend Freddie's Field of Dreams enough. Uplifting, heart-warming television. People from all walks of life showing the best of themselves. Perfect antidote to recent events.

Genuinely fascinating going through the MPs' register of interests. For example, Lee Anderson gets paid £50 a month to put a little GB News logo on his Twitter bio. Reckon he's underselling himself a bit tbh.
