Yes, but the system has tremendous lag. We're taking decades. Decisions such as massive research funding cuts and restrictions on scientific personnel mobilty takes time to work through the system. There is no indication that the next president will change these policies.

Not many rail projects in the world come in on time or budget. UK's HS2 costs have tripled. California high speed rail started at $33 billion and now is over $200b.

Okay. So lets announce a radically new way to make steel by an Indian owned company that doesnt currently make steel using an internally developed process.

Do you have a plan? Maybe you could bring it up in parliament. Oh right, you dont have a seat.

Wow. Just keep talking. All you're doing is increasing the resolve of Canadians to reduce US purchases as much as possible.

I think you miss the point. This isnt about trade. This is about destroying Canadian manufacturing. Trump wants to break Canada so he can buy us at pennies on the dollar.

This is not a traditional trade war. Trump doesn't care about economics, jobs or Americans being hurt. He's much like Putin. He just wants to turn Canada into a vassal state, like Belarus. This is a power play.

The difference between liberals and conservatives, is we can laugh at ourselves. With Lake Ontario now renamed Lake America - one has to wonder are this really Canadian Geese or do they identify as Donald Ducks? 🤣

What no one realizes, it seems, that destroying Canadian auto manufacturing will be a massive hit to the big 3 US auto manufacturers. Expect another round of 2008 style bankruptcies. Also expect that it will result in the permanent ban of US auto imports into Canada. The Trump bankruptcy legacy.

It's all part of their bad-faith bargaining tactics. It's also known as receding horizons bargaining. The US amplifies this approach by making outrageous demands when moving the goal posts. Then the unreasonable demands sound more reasonable. The only sane response is to walk away.

John Hansen @johnhansenca.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
This isn't good news for the US either. Their auto industry is fighting on 2 fronts and will come through this much diminished.

Trump breaks trades deals on a whim. What's to say he won't break the new deal. We'll see, but I'm very skeptical.

John Hansen @johnhansenca.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Trump will break the deal, but unfortunately Canada will honor the concessions. I really hope I'm wrong.

Just got v14 lite for our car last night(SOTA). First impressions are very good as it drove into our driveway itself and backed into a driveway of a house we're visiting. Simply entered the destination address and the car did the rest. Amazing.

Cars with AI inference vision systems could be a good solution putting the cost onto drivers. Current self driving systems(on a few high end cars) see cyclists, along with pedestrians and give them wide birth.
